I read in The Times today - so it must be true - that a Bridge may be built to link Jersey with France.
This (http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/world/europe/article3828160.ece) is the online article.
What ever next, a bridge between Southampton and the Isle of Wight?

That'd be quite an impressive bridge considering it'd have to go over hythe, fawley and calshot first :) Maybe more likely to be Gosport or somewhere over near Lymington.

Well, it's not a bridge but there's talk of boring a 60+ mile rail tunnel from Holyhead to Dublin.

If one can be thoguht of all the way from France to Jersey. Then Southampton (http://www.multimap.com/maps/?hloc=GB|sothampton#map=50.89817,-1.41209|13|4&loc=GB:50.89968:-1.39559:14|sothampton|Southampton,%20Hampshire,%20 England,%20SO14%203) with its infra-structure would be a better starting place than say Portsmouth which would be a grid lock. The bridge would look great along the estury and out to the island to say Cowes (http://www.multimap.com/maps/?hloc=GB|sothampton#map=50.77359,-1.30737|13|4&loc=GB:50.89968:-1.39559:14|sothampton|Southampton,%20Hampshire,%20 England,%20SO14%203).
