I couldn't find a thread about the US Open so I've started one. The results can be found at http://www.starswimming.org/results/usaswimming/index.htm

The mens 100 back is the reason I decided to post as a guy who I've never heard of, Nick Thoman went 52.92 just 0.03 off Peirsol's WR. I thought it was a bit of a timing error so I looked the guy up. Turns out he came 6th at the US Trials in a 53.7 so he's dropped a huge amount. Shame he's done it now and not a month ago, but the two who are going for the USA will probably be the top two at the Olympics anyway.

My Ealing Teammate Charlie Turner almost went sub 50 in the 100 free. He's been out in at Pine Crest training so he would have swam much faster had he been training with Ealing!!! Only joking.

Good swims from Katie in the 100 and 200 free, Katy Sexton in the backstroke and Stef Proud in the 400IM.

Psych sheets at this site too

From the results it looks like Katy Sexton didn't swim the 100 back despite seeding 4th in A final.

Some other very quick results from the meet-Hayley MacGregory had another near miss for a WR in the 100 back- have led to speculation that the Olympic Trials pool in Omaha was a slow pool.

Be interesting to see if the Beijing crowd seems to validate that slow pool theory.

Could it not just be that some of these swimmeres were more rested with no pressure? McGregory set a world record at trials anyway so it's not like she made a huge drop, though Thoman certainly did!

Matt Clay did a very fast 100 back as well.

Some people are like that. They swim well at nationals then even better a month later. less pressure at the 2nd meet or more confidence gained from the 1st meet could be a factor.

Matt Clay dipped under the 54s mark in the 100 back which is good but i'm sure he's kicking himself for not making the team by such a small margin. He can do it in 4 years if he follows in Gregor Taits footsteps and keeps going.
