Currently 18 knots NNE at Dover. Surprising as up here we've complete calm.

Dover tomorrow: Easterly falling to 11 knots.

Update:

I was brought in as a late substitute on one of two Childline boats that were scheduled to go out on Tuesday this week with two 6-person teams on board.

Sorry I missed this thread and the chance to keep you all abreast but the weather has not been kind and we have slipped day by day. We are number one on the tide, ie we get the first go at going when its go-able!

The good news is that we (the Childline boats) are now planning to go Saturday, as opposed to hoping! As Wildie has noted, the wind has been a problem for most of the week, but in additional there are additional effects from the autumn equinox on tides too.

F/Bean and her relay team (3 swimmers) is number 3 for one of the Childline pilots so that means if we go Saturday and number two goes Sunday then she has Monday perhaps.

Its a very tight window now, the days are shortening and temperature, at least the air, is dropping. We arent expecting a scorcher thats for sure.

Current planning suggests a 8am departure so thats sort of civilised. However it is more than likely that we will be sneaking up on the Frogs under cover of darkness.

Sea temperature still 16 point something so that should be fine.

And one little gloating point if I may: Over 90 six-person relay teams have swum since the Lido Legends in August 2005. That team, a motley crew of middle-aged masters four of whom post on this site, landed in 9hr 40mins and only one of the 90 teams since has beaten this......

Rewind - are you doing this as well? With FB?

Yes - I am in one of the 2 Childline boats. FB is in a different relay on a different day. She is nothing to do with Childline, just that one of the pilots doing the Childline relays is subsequently taking FB's relay team on the third tide.

Hope thats a bit better - the original post was a tad unclear!

If anyone want to come along on the boat and watch, I can bring a friend.Be in Dover at 8am and be prepared for maybe 20hrs out at sea...

The weather is fine, wind dropping and we shouldnt have more than 6-8kts tomorrow. From the East it will be colder for sure and the clear night tonight wont help. Sea is 16.5C out in the middle.

I'm number six on the escort boat Suva, the other is Roco. You can watch them on AIS on http://www.tierathlon.de/channelboats.htm

I'd suggested the others start and then I'd watch for a bit, tell them a few stories and generally harange them into getting over as fast as we can. I have a team triathlon at Tooting 8am Sunday (with Prof - aka "The Wood St Gazelle" - and Tasmanian_Deville).

Hoping that "IT Dave" will get us posted on www.lido-legends.co.uk per usual but lets wait and see. I will text some of you if/when we go. Its 8am start from Dover Marina

As its for "Cheridy", I have set up a link for donations.

Think about the kids - if you can spare a few quid then please do so. I think the picture I have used on the page captures the occasion pretty well - go look!

I'm hoping that dipstick Swiss bloke in his rocket-powered batsuit gets over today, we dont want him dropping in the sea beside us.

Crazy? I feel a bit of the black pot vs kettle coming on!

If you believe this:

then there's likely to be more wind when Dunc blows his candles out tonight!

Are you observing over the weekend m'Lady? (The Channel, not Duncan and his candles - God forbid...the way he does it too...so common and rather earthy really!)

Unless he's got an anti-flashback valve fitted it could result in a rectal explosion. :aarrgghh:

Messy.
