View Full Version : Friends
:D Shall we start a Friends discussion here. I found elements funny in the first series but I understand it is a bit tired these days from all accounts. I stopped watching long ago. Give me "The Office" or "Alan Partridge" anyday.

We also have Will and Grace... umm can't really remember any others, the only one I watch is Friends!

I used to watch Friends, but yeah after a while kinda lost interest. It is funny but I just don't watch it anymore.
We also get Frasier, Sex and the City, things like that. Basically the more popular things I guess. For example the Sopranos was very popular over here (though I never watched it).
Personally I can never get enough of the Simpsons. It may only be a cartoon but it's funny on so many levels and the more times you see an episode the more you appreciate the jokes. It's great! :D

Completely agree about the Simpsons! But I really don't get Futurama... it's just not a funny. They don't have a stupid enough character in it!

I am amazed at the extent of American tv in the world...I know here in the US, on our Public Television stations (not to be confused with NBC, ABC, CBS, and Fox) we get to see "Are You Being Served", "As Time Goes By", "Eastenders", "Keeping Up Appearances", "Faulty Towers" and "The Last Wine of the Summer" to name a few. But that is usually on like Sunday evening. We have to pay extra on Digital Cable or Satellite tv to get BBC America.

We get them all! Although many are not classed as comedies here, just pure rubbish.
However, by far the funniest comedy we get from the States is the one where this really stupid guy called George W Bush becomes president of the country. One of the best episodes is where 'Dubya' (as he's affectionately known in the show) doesn't realise that the rest of the world hate America but he makes everyone hate America a lot more by deciding to bomb and invade whatever country he doesn't like that day. Fortunately, he doesn't bomb and invade Britain because Britain's primeminister is this puppet like creature who does what Dubya tells him and thus thinks it's fun to help Dubya bomb and invade these other countries!

My fave american show at the moment is Six Feet Under - black comedy at its best. Only problem is that the second series was on after my bedtime, so I now have 12 weeks on video to watch  Add that to the 14 episodes of the Secret Life of Us (Aussie version of This Life - now that was a quality programme) and I'm going to be staying inside for a very long time one weekend....;)

I forgot to mention we also get several quality family programmes from the US, including South Park and Jackass! And Malcolm in the middle is another one.

His family is the weirdest family ever, kinda reminds me my best friend's family...
This show is just brilliant.

They cancelled that show on our Comedy Central after 6 episodes. President Bush thought it was funny, even though it was passed his bed time...the "Leader of the Free World" is in bed by 9pm...Really makes you wonder who's really running our country.

i like some british shows, like cold feet, parkinson, the kumars at no 42, and the bill. i also like murder mysteries like taggart and the like.
australian shows are mostly crap, especially neighbours and home and away. i wish they'd axe neighbours already, i'm sick of all these no talent bimboes launching singing careers out of it (excepting kylie, i like her), the acting is awful and the setting and scripts are drab and boring. the secret life of us is decent, but there was an even better show that i believe they copied a lot from called 'love is a four letter word', but it only lasted one season. kath and kim is a funny show, i'm not sure if they've showed it in the UK or not.
american shows are also kind of boring and samey. i like daria, the simpsons, charmed and survivor though. i also have this embarrassing addiction to this cheesy bizarre soap passions. the acting is terrible, but it's unintentionally hilarious.

i know what you mean! to mention ... the bold and the beautiful and the young and the restless to name but a few...totally cheesy and totally full of failed hollywood wannabes! They are funny though and they fit in with all the rest of the crap we get on skydigital on all those wasteful channels like living etc! jerry springer once was funny but now its just always the same, maury povich is obsessed with paternity tests and why does jenny jones insist on those c**p bands! sorry but it bugs me!

Yes I just saw this in the papers.
Rachel is going to be in it, but there will be less episodes in this series so that she can spend more time at home. Also they have not asked for a payrise (shock horror! )!!
To be honest with you, I think they are just dragging it out a bit. Nobody watches it anymore because it got boring after a while. They should knoe when to call it a day.

They already show less episodes...besides, NBC only resigned it because they're afraid of losing it's top spots on Thursday nights here (when the show is aired)

I would just like to say that I never used to watch Friends but now I do and I must say that I enjoy it. I also like Fraser as well but I am led to believe that not many people like Fraser
I also have to agree with nsswimmer from a long time ago that Malcolm in The Middle is a great program.
Oh, I'll just add this little bit. When you guys were younger did you get scared of lame ass things on the tv that weren't really that bad e.g. I used to be petrified of the Daleks!!! I used to hate them and have to hide behind cushions whenever Dr.Who was on.

I can remember my brother doing that when the daleks came on, Matt! (He's 45 next month.....I don't think he still hides, but I could be wrong!)
Mike Mercury's huge eyes on "Supercar" were really scary too! :shocking:

Glad to hear I wasn't the only one scared of them, I don't know why it was just the daleks though. I was never frightened of those stupid sea creature things in Dr.Who........just the daleks
