Ok...I need some musical inspiration.

Given that I zoom up and down motorways - often at ridiculous times of the day and night and there is seldom any decent radio on - can anyone recommend any up-beat CDs for the car?

Like something with a beat and high volume/rock/jazz/funk/heavy...

something that I haven't got ...something to whip up energy please.

Over to you......

The Best Rock Album - Ever.
Classic Rock Anthems.
Rock Chronicles.
Deep Purple in Rock.
Echos - Pink Floyd.
Ace of Spades - Motorhead.

If you like classic pop from the 60s and 70s presented by the master, Fluff Freeman, I've got mp3's made from my cassette recordings of his classic "Pick of the Pops" shows. If your car player can play mp3 CDs you're welcome to a selection.

Have you considered making your own compilation CD with just songs that you like on it? Songs on my driving CDs include:
The Wombats - Let's Dance to Joy Division,
Bloc Party - Flux,
Journey - Don't Stop Believing,
Meat Loaf - Bat out of Hell,
Bowling for Soup - Girl all the Bad Guys Want,
Snow Patrol - Spitting Games,
Metallica - Battery,
Dire Straits - Money For Nothing,
The Killers - Mr Brightside,
Boston - More Than A Feeling,
Daft Punk - One More Time,
Killswitch Engage - My Curse,
Slipknot - Duality,
Chesney Hawkes - The One And Only,
The Strokes - 12:51,
Team America: World Police Soundtrack - America, F**k Yeah,
Bon Jovi - Livin' on a Prayer,
Feeder - Buck Rogers,
Status Quo - Rockin' All Over The World,
Foo Fighters - Everlong,
Pendulum - Blood Sugar,
Alien Ant Farm - Movies,
Biffy Clyro - Mountains
Lostprophets - Last Train Home
Rage Against The Machine - Killing in the Name

I have more if you would like to know, but it is not really upbeat music.

Will run off a copy of my Oasis-1 and Oasis-2 compilations. Nothing to do with any band called Oasis either. Will explain next time you're at Hayling.

For something upbeat and insanely different, I'll throw in a suggestion for Esquivel's Space-Age Bachelor Pad Music and Music From a Sparkling Planet. 1960s Latin-jazz fusion instrumental pop that's very catchy.

While they get mocked here for being cheesy, I'd go for a Journey greatest hits album.

I won the Top Gear best driving songs double album, and that's pretty good. Apart from anything else I actually know most of the tracks, which has to be bonus, being an old fossil an' all.

What about ABBA, or a cheesy 80's compilation...I had one on yesterday and it was very funny remembering how bad bands like Kajagoogoo were.

Also what about listening to some comedy - download some from i-tunes.

You might enjoy some of Brian Houston's CD's (he's an Irish singer, but sounds slightly like Bob Dylan sometimes)

There isn't a lot of You Tube clips and the ones that are there don't really give you an idea of his range and versatility, but this is one where he's singing

and he has a website of course.

I think he's great - I first came across him when he was performing at Greenbelt in Cheltenham and at that time he was just selling CD's as he moved around; now he's got a very loyal following.

I've just bought "Jesus and Justice" which is the CD which has God is my Shepherd , and I've also got the "Sugar Queen" one.

Agreed. Also the album version of The Road to Hell. Spectacular opening...enough to make you put the pedal to the metal.

LAZ, my daughter introduced me to this one: Jason Mraz

Perhaps more 'listening at home' than driving music but a very interesting partnership between the two musicians.

The 'Dreams we had as Children' Sunday Times freebie CD by Noel Gallagher is in my car at the mo. Fab on the motorway. I never listened to Oasis (have a problem with monobrowed ugly men) but I think this is excellent.

Have you turned up Def Leppard, Nazareth, Free and ZZtop up full volume on the Bose?

That transports you down any motorway.

If you don't already have, I'll throw in a recommendation for a greatest hits album from The Offspring (they tend to be one of those 2-3 good songs and a bunch of filler per album types). When it clicks on something like "Come Out and Play", they're sublime.

Fire away....

I'm really open to new stuff but Def Leppard still rocks my boat...er I mean car.

Transport me to another place via music please.
