Nothing less than you deserve ;)

And I only ever see police in my rear view mirror. I'm usually going too fast to see them as I go past

I am a menace to society

However, the fact that my insurance has tripled since before the ban goes some way towards reimbursing society for the pain and suffering I cause!!!!

From what i've read on this thread, lessons from Chris don't sound like a good idea!

Unless you want wreckless driving lessons :P

lol! does anyone know the ave time it takes to pass? i want to pass with 10 1 hour lessons hopefully. I'll practice out of the lessons aswell though, i don't have a clue when i'm going to find time for them though!

swimusa

Driving is easy (well if you drive on the right side of the road). I have never tried the left side of the road.

I found that 2 hour lessons were much better than one hour ones. I think I had 5 2 hour lessons rather than 10 1 hour ones. I did do a lot of practice in between as well though - understanding parents!

Passed first time of course, with just the 5 minor faults...:D

Oh dear! I was told by my instructor the average is like 34 hours or something, so get as much private practice as you can (Parents willing of course).

My folks were really good and I learnt the basics (clutch control, hill starts etc) before I was old enough as they took me to a disused car park to practice at weekends. They then paid for 10 1hr lessons for my birthday and away I went! My Mum used to take us training every night, so she let me drive which meant that I got practice most evenings without her having to find extra time to fit them all in. I passed first time after about 12 lessons, but I had heaps of practice in-between my lessons.

Good Luck, I am sure that you'll all be fine! ;)

Did I mention that I'm having to re-take my test :(

I'm officially back on the roads tomorrow, but I have to have L-plates (on my newly modified car  ) and I have to have a co-driver

Bootie

Are you serious about re-taking your test! it seems a bit harsh (by the way this post clocks up my hundredth).

Deadly serious I'm afraid. A dangerous driving conviction means an automatic re-take :(

swimusa

Are the majority of cars in the UK manual or automatic transmission?

Tough luck on the retake. I am sure you feel like a 16 y/o all over again. Regardless if you pass, I am still afraid. I'll make sure to think twice now about crossing a street in Guernsey if ever make it there.

Well Chris your not alone as Sean and I are having to take our test again to get a QLD licence (we were only legal to drive on our Gsy one for 3 months!!) Been putting it off but we've made a vow to do it by the end of the year (don't want to push ourselves with the time limit!!)

In Oz you have to retake your licence even if you move states (only the driving part but still harsh!!)

mammamedley
28-02-2003, 07:41 AM
Oh no - does that mean i have to take driving test again in 3 months?
Australia won't be able to cope!

Chris
28-02-2003, 08:10 AM
Hurray!!! My driving ban is officially over :D

I've not driven yet though as my lovely girlfriend hasn't been driving long enough to co-drive me, and in any case, my car is at the bodyshop having a little bit of work done.

Hopefully I'll be able to have a drive this evening ( and I'm gonna try and book my driving test this afternoon :p )

btw Chris it might have been a good idea to have 1 lesson just to be reminded of all the requirements and have all your bad habits pointed out to you. You don't want to go and fail the test now do you!!

I'm thinking about it Baz, but it's bad enough having to stick L-plates on my car without doing the complete learner driver thing all over again!!!

So maybe we will be seeing a tone down in the array of dangerous driving skills?

I'm glad they're making you take your test again. Sorry no sympathy here, I once worked with a kid who had been run over. I don't enjoy the thought of having to be fed my chips in macdonalds overly.

Poor kid. Just behave (>=|) this time eh ;).

What are L plates. Are they plates pointing out how you are a wreckless driver and a menace to society?

You won't have to do the whole driver learning thing over again, your not the first to have to re-take a test because of speeding. You might as well have one lesson, plus they might be able to switch your test date with someone who isn't ready and do it sooner.

ktcute

L plates are plates our learner drivers put on there cars, to show that they haven't passed a test yet. You use them while driving accompanied by someone who can drive already.
You get to throw them away the minute you pass your test.

Though I like the menace to society idea. M plates.

"Light touchpaper at arms length".....

I would also advocate the introduction of a "W" plate for women drivers, I could then do my utmost to avoid that most dangerous kind of road user!

....."and stand well back"!

Excuse men but the majority of people who are taken of the roads are men (well in Guernsey certainly). The only reason we are hesitant is because there are stupid, speeding men on he roads (i.e Mr Adkins).

The only reason women are cosidered bad drivers is because they are taught by men!

swimusa
03-03-2003, 09:38 PM
The reason why women's driving is worse than mens is because women tend to panic rather than react. Putting on makeup doesn't help very much either. I still think you should try driving on the right side of the road. It's much easier, especially for the right handed majority.
