The Blue Mile, The Hoe, Plymouth, Devon
Saturday 3rd & Sunday 4th July 2010

The inaugural event will place over the weekend of 3rd-4th July 2010, at The Hoe, Plymouth’s waterfront. The Blue Mile will be open to everyone to take part and complete a mile in, on or next to the water environment. The “Race for the Environment” will take place on 3rd July in the water starting at the Mayflower Steps and finishing at West Hoe Pier, open to swimmers, stand up paddleboarders, and kayakers. For those not so keen to enter the open water but wishing to complete a distance of a mile by foot, the National Marine Aquarium is providing a free guide and discounted entry to the aquarium for The Blue Mile Walk. The official charity partner for the event is WWF-UK.

As well the action on the water, The Blue Mile event will include The Marine Institute Blue Lectures supported by the University of Plymouth, Marine Institute in association with the Barbican Theatre. Seven amazing adventurers who between them they have scaled Everest, stood at both Poles, dived in the world’s oceans, and sailed non-stop around the world will be presenting lectures. The lectures series will take place during the day of 3rd July at The Barbican Theatre (more details of the speaker line-up & ticket booking at www.theblueproject.org/thebluelectures).

Also, within the Blue Mile Event Village will be exhibits of interest to the whole family all themed around sport, healthy living and the environment.
