View Full Version : OWS Swim Series - Marlow
So who else is heading out for race No. 2 this week?
I'll be there for the 1500m, hoping to swim faster than last time of course :-)

I'll be there - doing the 1500m as well.
Cool, I'll be in a black wetsuit so make sure you say hi! Short with long dark hair - unless I met you at Box End but I don't think I did? Silver cap, silver goggles.
Should be easy after your ripper swim on the weekend. You will most probably have finished off your burger before I even get out of the water :-)

I didn't do Box End, but will certainly say 'hi' if I see you on Thursday.
Likewise, come and say 'hi' if you spot me, I won't be in a wetsuit, will either be wearing jammers or legskins. If they don't give out caps, then I'll have a red Oxford hat on which'll be pretty easy to spot!
Nope, no caps, I'll look for the redhead ;-)
After last nights training session (running) I'm wondering if I can get around with just my arms and hold my breath the whole way.....legs, lungs and heart are T-I-R-E-D!!!
I'm not sure of that faster time now, maybe if I can get a tow behind the boat?!

Peet, sorry to not meet you last night. How did the swim go?
I found the low sun to be a bit of a problem, I couldn't see a thing after going around the last buoy with it being straight in your eyes and was all over the place on the last stretch.
Quite pleased with the time all the same and the water was a bit warmer, not so keen on the patches of weeds though!
So...does that mean you really weren't the guy in the red swimming hat I was talking to eventhough I said 'are you from SwimClub' and he said yes?! OMG! :banghead:
I learnt the hard way last time about the sun in your eyes - you simply have to aim for land on the left or you end up swimming a bit further. You also have to aim for land after the 2nd buoy too as it curves slightly - a little deceiving. It was like being in a washing machine between the last buoy and hte finish line though, a lot more wind than last time.
I did ok in the end, it was only 25-30 secs faster than last time and I was hoping for faster but I did have a triathlon on Sunday, bike Tues am, heavy swim session Tuesday pm and a ridiculous track session the night before so I was pretty much spent after getting my wetsuit on! Coach was happy though given my training this week, so if coach is happy I am happy :-)
I'm not getting along with my wetsuit though, feel restricted around the arms so maybe I'm not giving myself enough room around the shoulders. I might have to ask someone next time to help me sort it out around my shoulders.
In line with KB's recent requests for NWS status, OWS have now added a comment and will now put NWS next to all non-wetsuit swimmers as long as they tell them they are not wearing a wetsuit.
Just thought I would jump on KB's bandwagon :thumb:
.
This has now been added to the OWS website:
"Non wetsuit swimmers are eligible please put NWS after your name when you complete the entry form. Please note this only applies to those use to swimming with out a wetsuit anyone who wishes to race but doesn't have a wetsuit can hire one for the evening".

Nope - that wasn't me! :speechles
I'd already emailed OWS about non-wetsuit, hence why I'm the only person on the results with (NWS) after their name. ;)
Nope - that wasn't me! :speechles
Oops... I shall try to actually read the red cap next time and make a better identification...what an idiot....

Race three this week - anyone doing it? I had entered the 3.8km, but I'm now doubtful as I'm sat at home with an attack of gout in my foot. :(
Hi, yes I was due to do the 1.5km again but I am still on antibiotics after a nasty chest infection the last 2 weeks....so not sure whether I will be going.
I have entered a 3.8km swim on Saturday but not sure about that one either..another wasted entry fee I fear..... :(

I can sympathise - I don't think I'll be making it on Thursday, can still hardly walk and the thought of someone else hitting my foot fills me with dread! Can't train either, so hopes of a good swim at Barnet next weekend are down the tubes too. Just hope I can get some training in before the 4.6 miles at Brownsea in two weeks.
Hope you get better soon :)
So, I'm back training but finding it really hard to get back in the pool.
I think there is another race this Thursday, will you be turning up? I doubt ill swim a faster 1.5km time with no training so thinking of doing the long one.
Let me know if you're going.

Did the 3.8k last night - lovely evening for a swim and the setting sun didn't cause me as many problems as previously.
A certain Mr Adrian Moorhouse was in attendance, donning a wetsuit for a 1500m in preparation for the London triathlon. I queued up behind him waiting for the loo and had a little chat - a very nice man indeed.
I was planning to go but got caught up with work :-/
I went to Marlow on Monday eve just gone, had a nice 2km swim, lots more weed than last time but still one of my favourite places to swim.
Went out to Taplow last night, only did 1.5km, was a bit colder than Marlow (not cold just not as warm) and a very different course/swim. 750m loop, not sure if it was due to training hard this week or a cross wind etc but 2 laps felt like it took forever (well it kinda did at 33mins) - I felt like I had been water for well over an hour and I was glad to get out. Short swim for me so no idea why it seemed so hard.
I'll be back at Marlow on Mon eve if anyone wants to join me, probably Taplow Wed eve unless I go for Datchet on Tues or Thurs morning.
Still not made friends with my wetsuit yet......
