I am very intrigued by this meet management software. However, the only output I ever see online is the web results which don't look very attractive at all. Anywhere to find the actual report outputs (programme, results, heat listings, entry lists etc)

The printed output isn't much better. I don't have any examples on the computer, but I can describe them.

All printed output is in a single, fixed width font. Headings are the same style as the rest of the text. Bascially, think back to what you would have expected when the only printers available were dot-matrix, capable of producing something that looked as if it came off a typewriter - that is what you get.

So basically the issue at hand is that a lot of time wasn't put into making attractive printouts. They were just made to be attractive. Is the software itself at least functional? Is there anywhere to find a demo version or at least anyone to contact about getting one.

I would advise trying to get something else if possible. Sportssytems was an adequate system when it was first produced, but is now showing its age. Over time, the interface has become more and more cluttered as thing have been bolted on, and it is far from the easiest thing to use. It also seems very expensive for the aging system that it is.

If you really want to try, it contact details can be found at http://www.sportsystems.uk.com/.

You may also like to try http://www.sportstek.co.uk/.

Are there any other locally used software systems in the UK? I know its weird for an American to have such interest but I have this great interest in swimming software and am attempting to write my own. I just love the different types of software, to each man his own. I would be interested in finding out about any software thats used in the UK or elsewhere in the world.

I do know of one but can't find out where to point you at the moment. I'll keep looking and get back to you.

Basingstoke Swimming Club uses its own purpose written software, which is also used for several other competitions. It is not publicly available though.

It has developed over many years, from a text based system run on BBC micros to a fully graphical system written in Visual Basic which does everything that is required.

My club switched to Hytek last year and I believe the people with The Knowledge are very happy with it. It did replace a pretty elderly pre-Windows system, though, so was bound to be an improvement. The other system worked, but only one person was really across all the idiosyncracies.
