Basic HTML written in Gvim (a super-souped up notepad) on Linux and images in the Gimp. Uploading using nc-ftp. CGI and most of my admin scripts are done using a collection of Perl scripts (and the occasional C program and Shell script) all written in Gvim. Database backend is provided by the ever-wonderful MySQL db server.
At work, we use pretty much the same kit, except the cgi is all provided by C programs and our backend database is the absolutely horrible Oracle.

I use a combination of PHP scripts and basic (ish) HTML. All are edited by hand in various text editors.
It is basic (ish) HTML because Server Side Includes (SSIs) are used lots.

I use Frontpage 2000 = absolutely brilliant and very easy to use.
Currently the trial version of Dreamweaver MX but it runs out in 9days and I wouldn't exactly call it a website more of a poor page stuck on-line.
However, I am waiting for the full version hint hint ;) ;) nudge nudge cough cough.
gracias monsieur :D

I use dreamweaver when its available (so not at home). I also have to do some raw html coding, in which case I use a text editor, eg, edit plus or ultraedit, both of which provide syntax highlighting. I've also used html kit, which is free, and pretty good.
I've not used frontpage since they made you pay for it, and wouldn't pick it if I was going to buy something now.
What I use depends on what I want to do, but dreamweaver is pretty good because it allows me to whip together a page pretty quickly using the wysiwyg ability, then I can edit the html as I need, and see the results.

The little problemo is now solved, apparently. So, there is no need to worry any more folks.
p.s. do any of you know of a typing course that stops inapt people from typing 'teh' instead of the and 'tehn' instead of then and 'tehre' etc. etc. because I feel like a bit of a "Le Page" by doing that.

You can set up Word to autocorrect your usual mistakes (I keep typing italina for Italian and it fixes it) so you can carry on typing stuff wrongly and it changes - ta da! - just like that. From the Tools menu select Autocorrect, in the Replace field type in the thing you usually type (e.g. teh), in the With field type in the correct spelling and click on Add.

Sorry, you are prolly stuck with your typo... for at least a long while to come.
Typists end up learning groups of characters together, which commonly appear, such as common endings. Sometimes they end up typing the word that they would normally type, instead of the word they wanted to type. Its a bit like going somewhere new, and starting to drive the place you normally go to instead.
So if you learnt teh, instead of the, its at least going to take a while to fix. You will have to practise it, time, and time, and time again :)

Used Front Page at work a while back, and learned to hate it with white hot hate. Couldn't do some very simple things I wanted to with it, and it made the ugliest possible html source files.
For quick & easy page stuff, I use Taco- http://www.tacosw.com/

I find that using Notepad is the best way to make webpages.
