View Full Version : The "P" Fund
As a number of you know I am writing a biography. Connected to this last Saturday saw the official launch of the The "P" Fund. This will enable young blind people to go skiing in Norway with the hope that they will benefit and also hopefully produce GB's second winter paralympic medalist. My late friend Pete Young was the first; he won 3 medals. The experience of skiing for blind people is such a great high.
Well 50 people were at the launch dinner and it was great to catch up with so many blind friends who were so amazing with their entertaining stories and songs. We raised in excess of £1000 on the night; a good start.
Will keep people informed of developments in the fund.
Have any of you been involved in charity fund-raising?

A few years ago myself and a couple of friends raised almost £4,000 for the local special needs school toy library. We climbed the highest peaks in Scotland, England and Wales in 36 hours. this fundraiser is now done regularly to raise money for charity by teams all over the UK.
My wife completed the London Marathon for Spinal Reseach last year and raised abou £500 quid.
Not really been involved in fundraising since, maybe I should, I have a soft spot for St Dunstans which looks after serviceman who have been blinded in the course of their service in the armed forces (donate regularly).

I'm collecting money for a sponsored 10 mile ride at the moment. All the money collected is going towards Diabetes UK because my friend, who's organizsing the event, recently lost 4 family members in a house fire and they all had Diabetes. I'm also joining in the race for life this year, i've done it for the past couple of years too.

Forgot to mention that i did the 'Children's Marathon Challenge' for Childrenn with Leukaemia last week. We had to find 26 different animals, each beginning with a different letter of the alphabet. It doesn't sound difficult but you try thinking of an animal who's name beggins with X! I raised over £30 for that, together with the money collected from the rest of my class we raised a total of £268.42.

We are currently trying to raise money for a kid who was involved in a very bad accident latly, I think we are also doing a sponsered football/netball event for all the swimmers of our club. It sounds like it should be good.
Also keep up the good work Pete, Danger mouse and Super_fish88.

Fun run next weekend up Bathwick Hill. If any of you have been to Bath, it's that really big steep one going up to the uni.
If you haven't it's an 11% incline and probably 2-3 miles long or so. Quite daunting but loads of people are doing it so thought I might give it a go!!
The "P" fund now stands at just under £2000. Not bad in a week and a half. That could mean trips for 3 blind youngsters next year.
