I am wondering if anyone can help me; I am 18 years old and a swimming teacher, and I used to swim for a club when i was younger 12-15. I would like to get back into swimming, not necessarily competively, but to get fit/improve my speed and technique. However if i go to the pool alone or with friends I just mess around only doing a few lenths because I know the lifeguards and alot of the customers. Would a masters club be too intensive? I really need someone to shout (encourage) me to work.
Does anyone out there have any advice.
Graeme
P.S. I am located in leicester during university term time and essex in vacations.
Swimming with the masters section of a club would be a good move i think- for most masters swimmers the training and the involvement generally are only as intensive if you want it to be. It sounds like having a coach to give you the session would be much more effective than going in public time where inevitably there are distractions and where you are having to rely on your own self-discipline (which if you are anything like me is often not that great!)
Not sure about Leicester but lots of clubs in Essex have masters sections of varying sizes and frequency of training. If your local club has a website (check via the ASA site) then that will probably tell you about the masters training seesions.

masters swimmer would be perfect for you so long as you don't mind the 'oldies' around!!
Most age group clubs have a masters section to check out and some masters events have the 19-24 age group which will be great for when you wish to race.
Good luck and let us know how you get on!

I would also like to make time to swim in the masters, but think I would have to go out of the county.
