Well with the imminent World Champs it's easy to overlook the fact that we have a national champs taking place in Sheffield this weekend.

Personally I don't agree with something called a National Championships taking place when the country's elite swimmers aren't competing but would just like to wish any swimclub members attending the best of luck (not that they're probably going to read this as they would be leaving it late to not be in Sheffield by now!!). :D

Do you mean those ones in Manchester? :D I am going with Bobby tomorrow as no one from my club is competing until Saturday. Really looking forward to it even though not many people are there. Even treating myself to some backstroke!!! :)

I agree. Its a waste of time to schedule it how they have. Even so, it COULD have been a good quality successful meet if they had made the entry times easier so that decent (albeit not the best) senior swimmers could have made it and looked forward to it. I said when the times first came out that they were way too hard.

Anybody agree with me that the majority of those at the ASA are not in touch with the realities of club swimming and the sport today?

Thanks Bazz. As Katie said, we are going up tomorrow which is a shame as we will miss the 400m free. Leatherhead have entered 2 relays which will be good experience for the young swimmers. No pressure on them to win anything, just gain valuable experience.

I agree with Lane 4. (funny that, as he was agreeing with me in the first place! :D), but yeah seriously, you have a 'national' championships taking place, but the QTs are similar to normal, which means with half a dozen at the top end not competing (though it seems to be more given the lack of entries), there is plenty of room for a slight easing of the QTs.

They are through now. Nothing at all to shout about. Session must have lasted an hour tops.

Pretty run of the mill stuff. Don't know what Zoe Cray was on about with her "It's never easy" comment. She won in 1:04 when we have Sexton and Price capable of 1:00. If that's not easy what is?

There was about as much atmosphere at the champs as at the Southern Counties at Crystal Palace (i.e. none). A few good swims though, David Carry did some really impressive ones including a Scottish Record in the 200 free, and Rachel Genner's 100 breaststroke was great considering she's not been back swimming for long. Also Chris Cook's 100 brst was pretty impressive!
