In contrast to the "Awful swims" thread, I have just watched a good swim:
Rebecca Cooke breaking the British Record for 1500m - 16:17.??

Yessssssssss!
Reading's finest and an absolutely lovely person. Might explain her 400, which would have been her third priority.

Her time was 16.17.95 and beat her old record of 16.20.15, set in Fukuoka almost two years ago.

Yes it was a very good swim for Becci, however, I'm not predicting medals for her. I reckon she was all out and some of the others were holding back a little.

Our resident uber-cynic has no faith. ;)
I think Stockbauer has the edge, with the other medals wide open. There's no reason Rebecca can't be on the podium.
Reimer is probably Canada's best shot at a medal now that Knabe came up short.

Yes, Becky moved to Glasgow almost two years ago to train at Tollcross and is now at Glasgow University, but is a Reading life member and trains with us when she is home for holidays.
Fingers crossed when Reading gets the 50m pool announced recently as a joint project between the council and the university people won't have to leave to get LC training.

James Gibson fastest in the heats in the 50 breast. Darren Mew made the semis, in 12th. 27.54 and 28.27 respectively.

Just like to add Steve Parry to the list of good swims - 1:55.90 British recor din teh 200 fly (IIRC that's a commonwealth recor das well) - he was pulled to it by a phenomenal 1:53.93 WR form Michael Phelps, but has as a result qualified equal second for the final tomorrow.
Also I think Gibbo set a BR, Commie record and Championship record in the 50Br semis - 27.46. Mew qualified 4th, 27.98

Oh and I suppose we should mention Sexpot's Silver in the 100 Back - 1:00.86 - her time from the trials would have won gold....Pricey was a disappointing 8th in a 61 point.

Well done indeed to Katy and her coach Chris Nesbit. Very nice to win a medal.

Katy Sexton was brilliant! Her 2nd 50 was particularly impressive. Hopefully Sarah Price will really go for it in the 200 to make up for her disappointment today.
On the ASA Home Page it says Katy got her silver medal in the "100m breaststroke"!

Typical!! Thought I'd add another fantastic swim: Simon Burnett in the 1st leg of the 4 x 200 freestyle teams: 1.49.88!!! Would that have got him a place in the final? Just to add, have been looking on the asa site at the sc nationals programme: obviously been a little gender confusion in the women's 100 free and many other events!!! Loks like we'll be able to watch the likes of Brittany Reimer and Rick Say in Stockport. Wahey!
