View Full Version : Big Day Tomorrow!

I was wondering how many of our members are anxiously awaiting A level results tomorrow. What sort of offers are you holding for university and who is going on to study a sports related degree.
Our son is, but I think its only us who are getting a bit worked up about results day. He has a very laid back attitude of 'nothing I can do to change it now'. Better I suppose than being stressed out!
He hopes to go to Bangor to study Sports Science so fingers crossed for a CCD or to Manchester Met BDE.

Semi-confident. Needs a B for sports studies and reasonable grades for the other two. We are not enjoying the waiting around - too many plans to make :p
It takes me back to when I was waiting for my A-level results ... they weren't worth waiting for though :D

Mine neither... I failed all of them! However, as I didnt have any plans to go onto uni this didnt affect my plans. I had already started working at the local hospital and was earning money beyond my wildest dreams .. just over £1000 per year

He's done it!!! He surprised everybody, especially his teachers and me, by getting BCC. This is enough to get him into his first choice of uni - Bangor. Soon he will be gone!!!!
Hope everybody else getting results today get to experience that feeling of joy that I feel today.

Well done to your son Timekeeper Taff. My daughter has done AS levels but is away on holiday so I won't know her results for a while - it's really frustrating as she won't let me open them when they arrive.
Hope everybody gets what they want.

A in eng lit - well suprised but i've given it up allready coz i thought i would do rubbish grr
B in chemistry
B in biolody
welll anoyed coz i missed A's in those by like a few marks and in my biology mock i got 98%!!! i got like A's on all my bio and chem modules apart from one in each where i got just a B which somehow pulled my whole grade down, so i'm getting them remarked and taking retakes.
so i guess its a kinda day of ups and downs, o well i'm stil guna get my belly button done :)
well done everyone!:)

I got the same as Emma just in different subjects: A in chemistry and Geography (which I'm dropping!) and B in English and Biology. I'm about 4 marks off an A in my B subjects so I may as well get them remarked!!! I am a bit annoyed with myself because I really let myself down in the 2nd English Paper, must have completely misread the question!! Never mind Hope everyone else got what they wanted!

i got A in pe (293-300!) :) and A in psychology, B in geography which i dropped coz i thought i did so badly in it, and then biology i basically just failed! but i am gonna retake it!!
welldone swimmer and katie u did amazing! :D

congrats swimmer and katie and swimfreak85!! good luck in your retakes :D lucky you get them! wish america had some system like that :D
Ok I was a little disappointed I got a B and 2xC's. I really wanted and needed a B in sports studies but I was 2 marks off. However in all my modules I got A's and B's and in the paper I though went most well I got a U, which is kinda strange because I should not got from A's and B's to a U, so my teacher is getting that paper re-marked.
My Uni wanted me to get a B in Sports Studies however I have been accepted into my first choice 'Sport, Exercise and Coaching Sciences' at Manchester Metropolitan. The really wierd thing is I got my acceptance letter before my results which is why I was suprised I only got a C in sports studies.
Well done to everyone else, just be prepared for the next year as there is a big jump from AS to A level.

Well done Kaci. The most important thing is that you are going where you wanted to go. Have a great time at Uni.

Kaci were you doing OCR Physical Education? If so was it unit 2566 Exercise & Sport Physiology and integration.... module? Our son was also unclassified on this module scoring only 34/120.
In fact he said the both papers went really badly, especially the above mentioned.

Well done anyway Kaci no-one will ever ask you about the exams again once you go to uni so don't worry about it.

found out today that i was only 5 mks off an A in chem, 7 in bio - in bio for my modules i got a really high A in 2/3 modules then a realllllyyy low C in the one which is meant to be the easiest lol, so i'm requesting a remark
well done kaci, yeh like everyone is saying you got into your 1st choice uni which is all that counts - well done! :)

Would it make anyone feel bad if I gave a counter example to chlorine_babe's point?
A few weeks ago I applied for a job and was rejected immediately because I only had ABBC at A Level - they wanted at least two As. That is despite having taken my A Levels 6 years ago and having a 1st class degree :(

Chris, that kind of makes me think that it might not be the best place to work in that case! Good luck in finding a decent company to work for.

Well, I'm licking my wounds from my a-levels about 9 years after the event!
But still, despite getting an unspectacular BBBD, and having a not too great degree, I still managed 69% and 71% in my recent British Computer Society exams, equivalent to about 2nd year degree level. Something tells me I wasn't getting things quite right in my teens/early twenties!

Still, I've got a 2nd class Honours degree so nobody cares about my A-level results any longer :D
Besides, I have this wonderful website to make me feel successful every day

I'm not going to mention my A-level results, but I can concur with what most people have said that the overwhelming majority of companies aren't ineterested in your a-levels when you have your degree and then aren't interested in the class of your degree when you have a professional qualificaition and work experience.

Well done indeed. Just goes to show, this swimming lark doesn't have to prevent good academic achievements - not only a super-fast breaststroker but a brainbox as well!
Anyone else want to share their results?

I just think kids these day have it really, really tough work-wise and I take my hat off to anyone who can combine swimming with half-decent exam results.
Thirty years ago it was an absolute doddle by comparison (and with no involvement in sport).

blaaaaah.. I COMPLETELY AGREE WITH YOU PHIL TANNER!!!!!
holy crapness i just started school last week and i am ready to keel over and rot.
i'm a sophomore [meaning 10th grade; i have 11th and 12th grade before i can graduate] and technically this year isnt supposed to be very hard, but i'm taking advanced placement courses [AP courses -- if you do well on the AP exam, class can be counted for college credit] so im DYING!!
getting to sleep at 230 each night, plus math tutor 2.5 hours tuesdays and thursdays [korean parents are crazy; most of my friends have math tutor plus other subject tutors as well], plus lifeguarding class every saturday from 8am to 5pm is really really killing me =X and this is only the first week of school!
lol i probably should stop comin to the forums so often then huh?
SO sorry for complaining here lol i know that many others have it a lot harder than i do and im grateful that im not a junior yet [the hardest year!] so yes.
ROCK ON EVERYBODY :D

I think IMHO there is someting in the old adage "healthy body, healthy mind". Certainly my academic performance improved significantly when I started swimming properly at about 13 and it never hindered my exam results.
Well done to everyone by the way.
It's all about organising your time as well and setting kind of prioties for different parts of the day, that probably doesn't make any sense but who cares. I didn't really have that much orgainisation though so that can be improved upon now that I'm going into yr12 but I don't have to do Lifeguard training next term so that will give me quite a few extra hours in the week.
