I just want to know who I might bump into this weekend.
No discussion necessary (although it's always nice to hear what you have to say ;) ) but a simple:
I'll be there!!!
will do the job.

The final start list is available on the website at ASA website, Masters bit (http://www.britishswimming.org/sports/swimming/results/2003/asama03/asama03startlist.pdf) .
If you have diffs printing it, send me a PM, there is a way...
;)
I won't be there but go and say hello to the Cranleigh swimmers; there are only a handful. Look for orange hats.

Don't be modest ruthcp, your first ever training session was AWESOME!
Can you believe this? The woman's only ever done one length in a wrinklies relay and the first part of her first warm-up was 400m free! Poor knackered ruthie bemoaned the fact that she'd only done 3 (hundred), the first time I did a training session I couldn't even do 3 lengths! She stuck to it for the whole hour and was great. Just you wait till next year, Sheffield, we have a star in the making!

Best of luck, Sunbeam, I don't hold out too much hope of you getting there then. Suffice to say a lot of the wrinklies including me won't be there, so if you do manage it you'll have Vince[1] all to yourself (snigger, I'm telling Sam[2]!)

Oh, and we notice there's a Masters meet in Guernsey in April. If you won't show your faces in Sheffield, WE'RE COMING TO FIND YOU!!!
Expect a pretty sizeable contingent from leafy Surrey to descend on your gaff round about then. Sounds like a great meet and we're looking forward to it.
Brilliant, Tara. Great to meet you and Bazz. I'm sure Tara's got splinters in her feet she was up on that podium so often. Records tumbled like skittles - how many British records did you take? Excellent meet, great swimming, really inspiring.
If you were there you might have spotted a pair of fluorescent pink pool shoes walking up to start in heats 2 or 3, followed by freestyle with a limp. That was me in the shoes.
I did it! I was all set for a clean sweep of wooden spoons and in my last race (50 back) I actually came not last! By 4 hundredths of a second. Ah well, I'll take my little successes wherever I can find them!

Actually I did the following races:
50 free on Friday night
50 fly on Saturday morning
(pulled out of the 200 breast)
50 breast on Saturday afternoon
100 breast on Sunday morning
(pulled out of the 100 I.M.)
At least I was easy to find in the programme!!! I don't hide under a pseudonym!!!! ;)

Just been looking at the videos, now I need to check them with the programme, in case I've caught you unawares (as it were...) Was Bootie with you?
Just checked the programme and I don't think you were swimming the same heats as our lot. By the time it got to Saturday afternoon I was convinced you weren't there, I obviously checked on the races you pulled out of! Never mind, we'll see you in April. Were you wearing a bright blue teeshirt?

Thanks GF! It was really good to meet you, and also to watch you swim as well! I broke 3 GB records in the end, broke my own records in the 100 (which was a PB!) and 200 back, and also broke the 100 free. Was outside my own in the 50 and 200 free. Not that the 50 mattered as got dq'd!! I DID move at the start (a twitch) and was not advantaged by it but hey, never mind!
Very pleased with my swims, as only been back in the water 8 weeks after taking a break this summer to get over overtraining or whatever was wrong...
Also saw Gareth E swim too. Didnt see Chris and Bootie, we all thought you weren't there, so disappointed you guys and Kaci didnt introduce yourselves :(
But besides that good meet!
PS Kaci I only got my first NQT at 18 (28/1.01/2.14 from what I remember) so you arent that disimilar to me at your age!!!

Tara,
Hope you didn't see my 200 free, it was a disaster !!! The Lactate hit me at the 100 metre mark and my body stopped functioning. I barely made it through the next 4 lengths !! The same thing happened in my 50m fly. I thought I could just do 2 lengths of fly on very little specific training. The race sure proved me wrong !
I need a lot more training on Lactate tolerance and more work overall to keep strong for 5 to 6 events.
I did not connect that the Tara that i saw on the podium was the same as the poster on this forum. I would have said hello, if i knew.
you see this is why we need the t-shirts so that we can recognise ppl easily.
Bazza

Yes I was convinced you guys weren't there - the only time I noticed your names (Chris and Bootie this is) was in the 200 breast and neither of you swam it, so I was convinced you weren't there.
Never mind, I know I'll see Bootie at the Hampshires, and maybe Chris too?

It was the 200 free I saw- the first 100 looked good!! The only thing is I was getting ready for my 200 so couldnt come and introduce myself!
T-shirts would have been good so we recognised each other, although GF managed to find me! I did have my name on the back of my top- a club one though - and there aren't THAT many Tara's
;)

I would have been too embarrased to talk to you. I ran and hid after my 200 free ! If you stopped watching after 4 lengths then it was OK. By my next meet I WILL be able to hold that pace the whole distance, or I quit !

Oh dear, if I'd known you were watching I'd have put a paper bag over my head. From Tara to GF it's definitely a case of going from the sublime to the ridiculous. Our club did really well, lots of medals, lots of pbs (and lots of hang-overs).
And Gareth, that 200 couldn't have been that bad if you were able to run afterwards - I had difficulty standing up!
Kaci, did you swim or were you there as chief supporter? And what DID happen to Bootie?

Kaci's not old enough to swim there yet ;) Next year she will be.
I think I will leave Bootie to explain his absence (although he has the week off work for half-term so I'm not sure if he'll be on the web quite as often!!!)

It's all part of the mystery - you can get to the right heat from the front part of the site but you have to know what event and heat you're looking for!
The one I did is from 400m free heat 2, (bottom of the page, blue Guildford City hat). Far more impressive was Tara, but I can't find a single picture of her!
I tried to find our esteemed webmaster, but the only race/heat that he actually did is Heat 11 of 100m breast so you can play guessing games on that page. All his other races don't include pics of his heat. I'm hoping they'll stick more on by tomorrow.

And in the picture your torso is in I notice you're actually in front...

Just tried Chris_Lamb's suggestion and that seems to do the trick. Have a little browse first, then the links should work.

I was lucky !
There were 3 good photos taken of me, 2 of which i have ordered. The 2 best are the 50m Fly - heat 6 ( a head on shot ), the 50m free - heat 6 ( top right ).
Next year i hope that they have underwater camera shots !!

Well done to everyone who swam at the nationals - sounds like you all had fun if nothing else! I did my first swims in Oz this morning in a tidal pool which was a bit different from swimming in the UK but I did OK, butterfly is much easier in salt water! You can see the pool here:

Oh boy, what a weekend!
Yes I were there and no I didn't swim.
I flew over and got to Sheffield at lunchtime, one hell of a headache, so went to sleep for an hour. I woke up still with the headache so went to Boots for a dose of Panadol. Duly paid for the Panadol, whereby promptly turned around feeling a bit giddy. Next thing, unconcious, after having passed out, couldn't move, couldn't talk, very scared. Eventually came round after no fewer than 4 paramedics, were hooked up to a portable ECG and oxygen. Spent the afternoon at the Northern General A & E, who by the way looked after me wonderfully well. I made it to the evening session but thought it wise not to race, needed Chris and kaci for a bit of moral support. Generaly felt crap all weekend and were glad to get home. Have had a week off training and desperately need to get back as I am going mad.
Need to review my whole training strategy as people have suggested that I am doing far too much.
Bad luck Bootie :-( We will let you off for not introducing yourself! Hope you are feeling better now!

The doctor in Sheffield put it down to a throat infection, but that seems to simple an explanation. Visited my own doctor when I got home, she ripped the hell out of me for my poor diet and agreed with the UK doctor but wanted blood tests. A "vampire" nurse duly extracted vast quantities of the red stuff from my arm.
I believe that they are looking for glandular fever or something similar but no results yet.
Only trained once in 10 days, I feel that I need to do something. Fortunately both wife and coach have told me in no uncertain terms to cut back and start off again gradually. Feel a lot better now but must admit not 100%.

I am a little bit older than you, and had glandular fever twice a few years back - people seem to think that it is mainly teenagers that get it, but this isn't so! I was tired and run down for a while, but no lasting ill-effects, so you'll be fine, if that's what's ailing you! :) :)
Perhaps you get it if you are older but think like a teenager....;) :D !!
