Just to note that Saturday's results and BAGCAT points from Waterlooville today are on the Hants ASA website at www.hcasa.org (I have this mental picture of Mike Lambert tearing up the M3 to load them up this evening!).

There was no tearing - just safe, fast driving :D

Grrr...why aren't the results on the website yet!!?

Well they are now!
It was good to see a large contingent of channel islands swimmers - must be quite a financial undertaking. Do you get any help? Is funding/support done on an island by island basis?
I couldn't help but be particularly impressed by a 13 yr old boy named Jeremy Osborne from Beau Sejour. In particular his 200m FS win by 6 seconds in 2.03.69.
Good competition in the 13 yrs girls with half a dozen or more really impressive swimmers.

'cos we went to McDonalds on the way home!

Oh - and had to take the PA equipment back.

So now on to revealing katiebun to the world (so to speak).
I'm sorry but I'm still sulking because you stood me up on the IOW. Having promised in print to come in and say hello to me, you just let the lure of the bar go to your head.
Then I get back and read posts about how nice it was for you all to meet each other and well I just havent slept or eaten since!
You will be hearing from my lawyers!

(ps were you the lady wearing glasses who was so looking forward to the 400FS - so many Hants North tops I couldn't be sure)

I can't grovel enough. I don't wear glasses, but we had another Kate with us who does. She's 20 years older than me!

I find it really difficult, asking peeps if they are Swimclub members. It's easy with a swimmer, crawler. They're on the heat lists. You were on poolside so I didn't know where to start! I did peruse people putting up heat lists but I wasn't sure who to approach. You can get arrested for that sort of thing! ;)

such a shame because there's nothing I like more than being perused at poolside! ;)

I do know what you mean, it's not even as though we have a secret hand-shake or similar.
Perhaps we could devise a particular pre-loosening exercise that signifies to those in the know that you are 'one of us'! The mind boggles.
Of course there is always the great t-shirt debate...... as you may tell I just do not want to be sat in this office today, Sage holds no appeal, so I've mentally extended my weekend.

I'll get told off by Kaci if I mention the fleecy hats again! :rainbow:

How's this for a 'secret' handshake:

Sit on a chair lift your right leg off the floor and draw circles in the air with your right foot, going clockwise. With your right hand, draw a 6 in the air. Your foot will change direction. (Thanks to H2o for that particular party piece). This is much more fun than trying to pat your head and rub your stomach at the same time.

An alternative is to ask the announcer to say that anyone from swimclub should go to the announcer's desk (or wherever).

(Considering the number of times I've edited this post to get it right, I think the announcer thing would be simpler!)

I mucked up my original post, you have to do it all with the same side. Original post edited. Have another go and see how you get on.

I found it worked better with my foot going clockwise to start with, but maybe I am just odd.

Duh! yes, you're quite right. If your foot is initially going in the opposite direction to the number, then it will change to the same direction as the number when you draw the number in the air with your hand.

Original post edited AGAIN! I never COULD tell my right from my left.

(Imagine the hat has a great big D on the front)

GF, you missed our whole team sitting on the wall at CP!!! I bet we looked funny, but not as strange as when we were doing our "ballet stretching" at Speccy! Anyway, if your foot doesn't change direction I reckon it has an you just haven't noticed :p

Or you could ask him to get anyone from swimclub to stand up (but don't expect me to do it if he/she does ;) )

Anyway you post-jackers I'm still interested to learn if you island people (as opposed to us of course!) get any help from your government or sports bodies to meet travel/accommodation costs for meets.
Surely not as isn't it implied that all residents are, or are at least related to, millionaires by residing on these tax-break isles.
Does each island avoid each other when booking hotels for Hants, etc or are you all one big happy family when coming here to steal our medals, empty our
MacDonalds?
What about Alderney and Sark swimmers - are there any?

I don't think we do, only the amount that the club subsidises for us

We are all mega rich over here...........not really

2 Alderney swimmers swam in the Island Games last year but they don't really have much of a pool and train mostly in the sea, Sark don't have a team and before you ask neither does Herm.

Its cost us a fortune to get to English meete, which is why we haven't done speedo league until they allowed us to time trial. Its costs us an arm and a leg to get out of the island and the house prices are stupid!! There are millionaires in England aswell does that mean everyone living there is loaded?

Bootie

Our club sponsor helps us out financially, but most of the cost is met by us parents.
You could fly to America for what it can cost us to fly to the UK.
Oh how I wish I were related to a millionaire and I would love to see the so called "tax breaks" you mention!
We have less tax allowances, no National Health, no real welfare state to mention, but unlike the UK, the Island is not in debt, but in fact shows a surplus each year because we live within our means.
So we have a 20% tax rate, its not that much less than yours in the UK and we don't have VAT, just a 17.5% carriage charge on virtually everything.
All in all the grass isn't greener on the other side.
By tradition Guernsey hate Jersey, but I have always found that when we are together in the UK we kinda stick together.
As for stealing your medals, I am not English but I am British and damn proud of it, so have every right to be there and "steal" your medals!
As for McDonalds, isn't that American!

I can't really prove it but he was the little guy in white that was pretty much everywhere on poolside and nearer the end he was taking photos of pool swimming and as they were receiving medals etc + walked into him on the stairs, thought about saying hi but then decided NO I'll see if he knows who I am?
