As a result of the 2012 bid, http://www.london2012.org/en/news/archive/2004/march/2004-03-15-18-08.htm , states that all children in the London boroughs hoping to stage the Olympics can go swimming for nothing this Easter.
Oh, to be young!

They did that in Wales (I think) during the Christmas holidays. Their sales of chips increased majorly but I think it turned some of their regular customers off with the mess. It was in Swimming in January I think.

THe council have done this at 2 of the swimming pools in North Tyneside (Tyne & Wear). 3 sessions a week at each pool and it seems to be a longterm thing. As well as children getting in free, they also get a voucher for their bus or metro fare home.
We went once and you couldn't get moved, you certainly couldn't swim!

unfortunately you also get all the people in you don't want in...i.e. the ones who don't seem to know where the toilet is and those who think it's ok to drive the lifeguards & pool staff crazy...i have sympathy for all the pool staff who have to cope with the madness although its a good idea to get kids swimming, its often used as a free childminding service!

There is a pool near me who this Easter holidays are running free
Splash don't Trash sessions for I think 10-16 year olds.
This is being run jointly by the police and the council. What the worry is if
you look at what happened in Wales (Swimming Times) the staff will be too busy keeping order that some poor child in difficulties will be overlooked.
So after the next 2 weeks the phone boxes and bus shelters may be intact
I hope the pool is as well.
