hi folks.

been a while since me last post.

i'm 27 so masters section here we come :p

i have been in the pool regularly for the past 2 years 3/4 times a week. i stick only to freestyle as breast/s hurts me joints (i suffer from acute arithtus, bad knees etc). think i'm i must be close to 20-22 minutes or so for 750m with no rests. but getting a wee bit monotonous.

anyone recommend what i can do to keep the enthusiasm up, increase my fitness etc? :read:

i read in a another post about joining a masters club? anyone know one in the edinburgh area?

cheers in advance.

I believe the Warrender Baths Club and Heart of Midlothian (although there are forum members who will be able to confirm or deny these suggestions) both have a masters section, but you might just be able to ask at your local pool to see which club uses it; Masters clubs, or sections of age group clubs, are becoming increasingly common.

hi actionslax, and welcome to the forums. i used to swim with Heart of midlothian before i moved down south and they had a very good masters swimming section. i've been away for 5 years now so i guess it might have changed but i would encourage you to find out about it then go and have a look and a chat to the coach. it really is the best way to improve your swimming. by the way, they have a website which gives training times and pools for the masters section along with contact details called www.swimhearts.com. good luck (ps - you're in my age group!)

As a newcomer to the site only just picked up this thread. I too have arthritus in knee. Like George new knees will have to happen one day (best wishes George). However, I am having a bash at the breastroke in the Worlds in June wearing a knee bandage - it might slow me down but will keep all the bits in place. To compensate to look the part I have bought some of these knee length super trunk thingys like you youngsters wear. i was hoping I could pull them over my stomach but no such luck. Still I should be recognisable if anyone is going to Italy.

I have a new left knee and new right knee coming soon!!! I will let you know if it improves my swimming. I don't think I will try the breast stroke for a while.
