Sotted this on the ASA website http://www.britishswimming.org/vsite/vcontent/content/transnews/0,10869,5026-142440-19728-28293-123057-9137-5014-layout73-159656-news-item,00.html Someone tell me please, is this an April fool or not? Following the Commonwealths, Manchester must stand a chance if indeed a bid has been placed.

I'm pretty sure it's not an April Fool. Will be gutted if it is because it would be great to have another major international competition here!

On the same thread I ran across this http://www.manchesteronline.co.uk/news/stories/Detail_LinkStory=86049.html but I would really expect coverage to be a lot more visible if it is genuine! I really don't know if it is a wind up!

I read someplace that the Comp would be in a tempoary pool; possibly along these lines. http://www.smh.com.au/articles/2004/05/27/1085641656162.html

Two things:
1. This is about Manchester which isn't in the SE
2. A successful olympic bid (and possible and un-successful one) will result in high-class, permanent 50m pool (the current "plan" also includes a lesiure pool, 50m training pool, diving pit, etc.).

plus this is a bid for the world short course so a 50m pool would have only limited use (I recklon it would be hard to split it with a boom and still achieve the required spectator numbers)

Are they going to put it in a hall/arena like other countries have done with their temporary facilities?
Why can't we ever build anything in a month? :(

Good to see that the project was not a rumour. http://www.britishswimming.org/vsite/vcontent/content/transnews/0,10869,5026-142701-19728-28474-129705-8843-5014-layout73-159917-news-item,00.html I will still like to see a bit more enthusiasm though.
