View Full Version : 100 breast - a little disappointing ...

We swam the first round of the Speedo league (by post) this evening.

So we don't have to swim alone we have an 'A' and a 'B' team swimming against each other.

I swam the 100 breast again Matt (http://www.swimclub.co.uk/forum/member.php?u=202) (I was in the 'B' team).

I went 1.15.0 but was slightly disappointed .... Matt went quicker (but then he is a fit young man!!!)

Never mind .... Sheffield in 3 and a half weeks time ;)

Are you sure you should be posting Speedo times on here before everyone else has swum? I will be a recorder on Sat, though luckily not where there are any postal swims (think that might be a bit complicated...)

... I had always wondered how the postal swims worked - it must be extremely hard to get motivated without the rivalry of competing clubs in a gala atmosphere.
On the plus side it stops all those little kids loooking along the blocks thinking "he/she is sooo much bigger than me!"
So presumably the results are couriered under armed guard to Hampshire - I guess they are added to results sheet pre-gala but ensuring that other clubs have no idea of times achieved - it's all very Bond-like.

Do you travel over for Round 3 then?

Finally Chris sorry but I have a distinct feeling a 65 sec swim will win this particular event!!

Did Chrissy say that we were going to win? I thought I was going faster then what I actually did.

There is some form of competition at postal thing, like I had Chris he wasn't exactly far away from me at any point and he made me panic on the last 25m. Howver, there isn't exactly an atmosphere when we are swimming against ourselves, it is actually quite lame.

Yes we do have to travel away for the 3rd round.

I was thinking that it might make a little bit of sense if ofr example jersey, tigers, barracudas, gsc all swam in Guernsey the first round and then the second round we all went to Jersey. It doesn't exactly cost that much to get over there and then we would have more competition at the end of the day.

If there's anyone on the board that's involved in the organisation of Speedo perhaps they can take up your suggestion, Matt. It's surprisingly very sensible, seeing who made it! :D

It's ok Crawler, it's Matt that will have to take the defeat on the chin!!!! I shall be at the final round, but only as team chaperone/supporter!!!

That has yet to be confirmed by an official source ;)

When each event is announced, the postal swim times are stated anyway, before the race, so it doesn't really do any harm for Chris to talk about it

Chris didn't actually give away any information except that the time would be faster than 1.15, which is the least you would expect anyway at this level!

Crawler, I hope we don't get drawn against your lot! I was hoping Chris would go home after finishing uni but I believe he is staying in the area?

KB, I never realised the times were announced before the race - shall have to keep an ear out if we are drawn against one of the channel islanders in the next round.

Really...Matt...our Matt? Matt Robert? You've only him the once then!?

Surely the aim is to swim as fast as you can, so why does it matter about the time, and it was only 1 time chris said (then changed). Its what happens in heats, the last heat will always know what time the heat before them did.

I can remember doing a phone and fax meet in college when the other team couldn't make it to our pool because of a bad snowstorm. It was definitely harder to maintain intensity without the other team there.

Yes Kaci, but usually in a gala there is only one heat, so you don't know how fast the other swimmers are going to go!

usually in galas there are more than one heat. usually in speedo league galas, yes there is only one heat.

Oi, they were telling the truth I'm a lovely, amazing gorgeous young man :king: .

I thought it was a good idea as well :)

WE ARE SWIMMING WITH GSC NEXT TIME!!! I have been told by an 'official' source kind of. It will be at the Grammar School as well. Anyway Chris you might to get to take my place in the final round, I don't know if I can go or not :shocking:

Also I can't wait until/if morning training starts here (@ Grammar) I might actually be inclined to go :p

Actually why is this in the Masters section?

Well the good news Bazza from our point of view is that Chris is staying in the area and will continue for us.
I think we will do ok this year in Speedo, but as a club we are likely to be similar to Fareham Nomads where it is always a battle to survive if promoted.

A gala involving Southampton, Eastleigh, Winchester, Basingstoke, plus Littlehampton ( and a "virtual" Beau Sejour) does whet the appetite somewhat. It doesn't clash with the footie either so even the dads should make it along willingly.

Will report back late tomorrow!!

I wish we were at home so I could see the footy! :)

Kaci, how many galas have you been to where there is more than one heat? Only ones I can think of are schools galas and BUSA League.

Kaci

yeh hardly any then which proves my point.... what ever that was.

Bazza, I believe the poor girl has been overdosing on the "night nurse", she is either a bit poorly or has always been like this, you decide!

And hats off to whichever team it was from Les Isles Franco-Britanniques which posted in a DQ to a Div 2 S/W meet at Reading last season!

A local club in Guernsey apparently swam it all wrong. their littles ones swam 100m instead of 50's and they did 4x50 instead of 6x50....Doh!! and it wasn't the barracudas!

Think that must have been a different meet - Beau Sejour and Jersey posted times to the meet I was thinking of, I'm pretty sure, but I can't remember who confessed the DQ. Anyway, I was impressed!

Aha! So you weren't spilling the beans by disclosing your time because you turned off one hand, dolphin-kicked off the wall and your legs were all over the place! :)

(Only kidding, I couldn't swim a width...)
