yo yo yo! so who's coming to the beautiful island of Guernsey for our masters meet. I shall be there as a spectator. unlike most masters event there is no 19-24 age group cos some Guernsey people are very stuck in their ways. Not that i'm bitter about it or anything

Shame about the 19-24 age group. I like nothing better than beating these nippers in a race, shame I don't though. There was no treacle tart on the Sunday Lunch menu either.

Watch out for my turns, quite splashy I am told, but not as bad as my dives, I can get the balcony wet from the far lane

You all want some really exciting news??
What was the one biggest complaint about the Guernsey International Masters after they re-furbed the pool?
Yes, that's right ..... the ceiling tiles running diagonally across the lanes. Apparently some of you need to follow lines on the ceiling to be able to swim straight ;)
Well, at training last night I was somewhat surprised to note that they have installed lines above the lanes .... at a suggested cost of £3,000!!!!!!! What an enormous and scandalous waste of money!!!!
Although I am sure it will cheer some of you up :p
Chris
Seriously, those little lines can't have been worth that much.

Well if those lines cost £3000 no wonder they went £2,000,000 over budget on the refurbishments

I really can't believe they went that much over budget. They haven't even finished it all yet.
Sorry I didn't come down and say hi  to anyone that was there but I didn't have my car so the journey required just too much effort
Adam I have to say I was very impressed with your 50m breast, you had a stormer!

There was a youngster from my club next to me on the program, unfortunately we ended up in different heats and he beat me by 0.1 sec. I got him on the 100 and he didn't enter the 200 (125m too far). Not nearly as fast as bootie though.

Adam, 2.53 was not fast but an unmitigated disaster!
I haven't swum that slowly for over 5 years, it was totally pants!

Anyone know where the full results are posted, I seem to be omitted from the distribution list. Should also be committed for doing 10 events again. Still did three life time pb's and don't mind publishing them here. 50m Fly 31.70 taking .04 off from way back in July 1997, 50m fly relay split 31.13 taking .39 off from November 1996 and 100m I/M 1:12.36 taking .03 off from March 05 which was a pb from Oct 86. :king: :rainbow:

No idea I'm afraid. I would recommend emailing Howard Marsh or John Eyre.

At the lunch John Eyre was talking about the last week of March, or the week before. He said there would be a meeting the following week, and they would decide then.
If you do find out the official date can you post it here so we all know.

The programme is out for 2006, I have already entered. Friday 24th - Sunday 26th March. Treacle Tart is back on the Menu (last time we had this was around 5 years ago). And there is a Senior Age group.

You have to be organised, I entered eight months ago, so much to do inbetween - like crying in leaving the D age group.
You can log onto the following page to obtain an entry form if you haven't done so yet.
www.gasa.org.gg
and follow the links to the competitions page.
I won't be there unfortunatley but will be rubbing shoulders with the greats in Melbourne!!!!

Ladies and Gentlemen. Parcel force tried to deliver my brand new outragous costumes today(and it you think the green leggins are outragous - think again). My neighbour will sign for them tomorrow. So at Guernsey, bring your shades.

Well, they are here and they fit a treat. Not to let too much out but Spidey is branching out.
You go away for 4 days and lose track of absolutely everthing on here.
Going to have a tree this year then? Or maybe physical add ons to your bathers like a set of wings.
Actually, got a question here. I know there is a rule on wearing appropriate bathers but is there a rule to stick you having "bather add ons", if I'm extreme, maybe a fin? I was just wondering because the aim of the FS and FS2s were to replicate the surface of a shark's skin...well maybe if tehy pushed research out further and carried on in that way they might look at hard possible harder plastic bits to suits to help control water flow, vortexs etc. So I'm guesiing the is some form of rule to stop that from occuring as surely that would add as an "external aid" to the swimmer.

In the early Diana days there was a suit they sold which had a sort of fin on the back, so I suppose that must be allowed! It was really tiny though.
GettingFaster
24-02-2006, 08:04 AM
But surely a fin would be a DISadvantage, by impeding the roll on freestyle? It would only be a gimmick I reckon, not something sensible swimmers would want to make use of. (But then again the subject of a fin did start when discussing Spidey's subtle and discreet sense of pool clothing so that's where that argument falls down...) ;)

I may be wrong but I thought they banned the ones with the finny bits on the back.

The crucial element of a fin on the back would be having it not attached to the body in the rear part, just the front part. So then, when you roll from side to side, it would be able to flex like a fin on your foot does, and would provide propulsive force (and hence wouldn't be permitted under the rules). Or some other mechanism that allows it to flex in the same way would work, e.g. varying thickness along its length.

Indeed yet another good year, we'll have to bring more swimmers next year to try and regain the top team trophy.
I will be doing the 200m Fly event.
I go up an age group next year. I'll have to start practising racing 200 fly.

Not that I wish to advertise that fact that I actually did it again, but the results for the 16th OCS Masters Open Meet in Guernsey are on the following site http://www.guernsey.net/~swimming/Real_time_results/masters_2007/ Can I personally thank the organisers and officials for such a wonderfull time, so pleased to see that Sonia has finally attended the meal on the Sunday and to receive the appreciation from the swimmers for her handing out the medals every year for the last 16 years. Here is to 2008 (and I am arranging my "honeymoon" at a later date following my ceremony not to miss it.)
