Darn Spidey! Is there Surrey Masters Championships approaching?
I just wished you'd mentioned it before, and I might have been able to use that as my debut :speechles
Why all the secrecy??? :p

Sounds to me either you are not going to compete or you haven't put your own form in yet and if you haven't, maybe we will wait until you do! :p

Well you won't let me swim.

I let you swim in my competition, but haven't had your entry yet.

Anyway there's more than 24 hours before the closing date, it's far too early for most people to think about sending in their entry.

Sorry, but the draw of a sunny beach got the better of me, next year as an E, I will be there, doing the rounds trying to do all the events, long and short, may even have to the 200 fly Y

I'm pleased to advise you that entry form plus cheque is on its way today. I have a question on entry fees though - is the £3.50:

a) economy class - lanes 1 and 8 only, limited arm and leg room but you are resigned to your fate before you go anyway
b) club class - you believe you are treated randomly and fairly but often, as a club, SEEM to be mostly in lanes 1,2,7 and 8.
c) first class - lucky lanes 3,4,5,6!!

Given that we have discussed probabilities somewhere else on this forum today, I reckoned that at IoW and Bracknell it was 9 of 10 swims in outside lanes - is it just me?

Lets look at it this way, it may not be only in a warm up that the swimmers who may have difficulty in getting out of the pool are given the outside lanes.

What about swimmers who have difficulty getting into the water (without doing a seriously dodgy dive)? At this rate the gala could go on all night, with the middle lanes empty for quite a few heats!

At least in the outside lanes there are less lane ropes to hold your breath and duck under when you're struggling to recover!

I hope to enter once I get my ASA registration and some current times. I cannot rely upon my PBs from 20+ years ago.

It just so happens that I am in age group D!

Look forward to an entry, I do get a few with times made up, some like my own I say, but even some with no times, ASA number, and what is new.

Is this event open to all?
It's a closed meet, I'm able to swim because I was born in the county.
I'm given to understand that one can swim in the counties if a) born in the county concerned or b) registered with a club in the county.

Can anyone point me at a URL for the entry forms, they don't appear to be on the Surrey website, and Terrys e-mail address gets bounced back to me.

So does that mean you can publish list of accepted entries? The worst (ok least good then) bit of the Surreys is the minimal rest time between events, particularly when coach insists on quantity not quality, hence my name may well be found in unchartered waters such as 50 back and novelty races such as 50 fly. In E and above we only have a limited number of kilojoules of energy and to blow them all on the first race is a bit daft....and likely outcome is to fall asleep in the post-race curry.

I seem to remember actually doing that last year, but my excuse was that I had just spent 6 days in the Far East and only 4 nights in a proper bed because of the flight times and time differences. By the end of that session I didn't know what way was up!

So, what happened in the first instalment? With all the hype of a few months ago I expected the results to be up and visible, but, oh no..... silence from Spidey, F/B, G/F et al. Results anyone........or are you too busy recovering :p

Curry afterwards was superb, and made all the more delightful with the wonderful Spidey sitting at the table beside us. I managed one measly PB on 100 fly (LC is 2 secs faster) while FB did 5 races and got 7 PBs. Leppie pulled out all the stops on his 50 free with a stonking time that he's only been dreaming of recently, Spidey did a superb 50 breast though the red suit was sorely missed. Others will give their own reports or add to these brief details.

For what its worth 2 swims were sub(ie better than) NI record standard but because I swam for non NI club they dont count. 50 free (28.19)was 0.02 outside..grrr..but best I have swum for 6 years.
Best bit of any of these is the curry afterwards - even Spidey turned up in OUR curry house.
Have already got the markers for next time around but faced with choice of going for 200/100 free or 100 br - cant do all three at max pace thats for sure.
Polo training still seems to be biggest contributor but others would point at the recycling box full of (empty) Guinness cans.

Apart from a few club galas this was my first competitive meet for over 20 years. I was pretty pleased with the times that I did considering that I only spend about 2 hours a week in the pool compared with the 25-30 hours I used to spend when I took things seriously. I managed to knock 6 seconds off the 100 IM time that I had done at my clubs sprint championships 6 weeks previously and a 1 1/2 secs off the times that I had done for 50 free and 50 breast.

Looking forward to the 2nd - albeit that I seem to have entered every event!

Well done, you! And entering every event is the ONLY thing to do at Surreys, gives you an appetite for the curry! Do come over to the Guildford lot and look for the slowest ladies who might even surreptitious display a Swimclub t-shirt when Coach A isn't watching...

Big swim Leppy, Pleased for you mate, sorry I won't see you  at the second meet but it appears I was fed duff information by the man in red! It appears the rule book was not read in close detail before extending my invite. :read: Nonetheless I shall be there in spirit

For me it all seems to depend on how the first race goes. For the ladies it was the 200 free - which was my favourite of all the Surrey events, and it went very well. It was a 4 sec pb, with my 100 free time beaten along the way as well. There were a few individuals who I was targetting in this race and managed to beat them all (by a very small margin in one case). So after a good first race, I was in the zone for a good rest of the gala. :)

Not looking forward to weekend 2 quite as much as the events are all a bit short, and I may have mentioned before that I don't do sprints.

One of the nice things about the Surreys is that there are so many of my favourite swimmers and officials there - which really makes for a great atmosphere and fun evening. So many people did good times, and the looks on their faces was just fantastic. :king:

Curry afterwards was superb, Spidey did a superb 50 breast though the red suit was sorely missed. .
From other comments here, red faced instead of red suited. Had not trained since End of April, silly to do the events, but hey. 100 I/M hurt, so went to the 50m Brst as a technique swim, and it was with a suprising time, 100m Fly next, never have my arms given up more tha here. 50m Free, 2 seconds down on Guernsey, 100m Back, did not have the energy to tumble and flipped instead. Enjoyed the Curry afterwards though.

Not fair here, I did try, how was I to know there was page eighteen in the book. :rainbow: Too busy asking swimmers for their ASA numbers and no time to study all.

You could have joined our table and helped us count our medals......will reserve a space or two for this week though!
