:king: Millfield won!!!!!! First time in history, how good was it that we beat the plymouth imports!!!! I captained the team, and I wana say good job to the whole team, cohesion was awesome!!! Millfield obviously have too much talent, good job guys. I can't believe John Rudd claimed to have the best team in the west, wake up dude, Dougie is the man and we don't import for one seasons meet!!!!! And even though the media will belittle the Millfield effort once again, we are the champions my friend.

To put the record straight - Plymouth swam one second claim swimmer in the whole team, similar to, let's say, Euan Dale or someone like that...
Millfield did a great job and were the best team on the day but I think it's really unfortunate that you have to try and belittle someone else's efforts - even when you've won!
Perhaps you should think more carefully before posting again

Do the media not like Millfield?

My perception is that Millfield is a centre of sports excellence, surely that can't be criticized.

Pass on my congratulations to the team and Xander in particular.

It's only thoughtless posts like yours, Yip Yip, that belittles your great achievement.

I think congratulations need to be sent to all 16 clubs who made it to the finals, they are at the top of the heap and no matter who won, no-one lost, they're all brilliant. Congrats to all, you're the best 16 clubs in the country!

I must say I've heard of sore losers before, but this is my first experience of a 'sore winner'!!! :p

You are right GF, congrats to all!! :king:

 I am really sorry to be blunt about the situation, however i believe people always disregard the Millfield effort. Every team that competed showed true quality in both the A and B final and personally I did think Plymouth were going to win, as they have improved massively to become a dominant force in the west. To RCP your obviously a Guildford fan, so well done for your teams efforts by winning the B final, but winning is winning, that's what we swim for, and when you win you let people know!!! :p Don't undermine great achievements. It's people like you that suggest participation is the key, but in fact this ethic only creates a nation of losers instead of winners!!! It is a competitive world out there, I hope you find out one day!!!

I have watched this thread with interest. It seems to have put a quick dampener on what should be such a positive experience for so many teams, swimmers and supporters.

Yip Yip, as captain for Millfield you should be setting a good example of what true sportmanship is all about, I don't know how old you are, but perhaps you need to mature just a little bit before you become a truly great and motivating captain.

Of course all teams aim to win, but not at any cost. There are many definitions of success, for some just being there meant that they were already winners, for other maybe achieving records and pbs is a good measure.

I don't think that it is ruthcp's attitutude that risks creating a nation of losers, more one like yours where if you don't achieve your definition of success, ie overall winner of the final, then you are in fact a loser. Assuming that your team didn't win all the events in the competition, does that mean that your team also has losers in it? I think not.

Millfield has done well, and you should quite rightly be proud. But don't try to belittle the amazing achievements of all the other teams and swimmers. Success has many definitions.

Blunt is fine - defamatory and plain unsportsmanlike is quite another! :shocking:
I am indeed a well known Guildford fan, and I did rejoice in their win - however, I did so with respect for all others and with congratulations to all, thus concentrating on our great effort and subsequent victory - your post has merely served to pinpoint exactly what you seem to be keen on complaining about! If this is how you wish Millfield to be thought of as, than you've done a great job!

I am quite certain that I know quite a bit more about winning than you seem to Yip Yip! :)
I suggest to you that the best way to win is to win gracefully - I don't for a minute think that to show good sportsmanship creates a nation of losers!
You have ably demostrated this, because although your team won a great victory, you seem to be the real loser here as you've done nothing to promote the win!

If you had been able to celebrate your win with grace as others have, your thread might have developed along a different path to what it has - just thought I'd point his out to you in case it wasn't readily apparent. :shocking:

Although I don't think Yip Yip has quite gone about this the right way, i do agree that sometimes Millfield doesn't seem to be given the praise it deserves and I'm not sure quite why this is but I do have an idea!! Yip Yip, well done to you guys and all the people in the final, it was a long overdue win! :)

Can I suggest that this thread has worked its course and Chris might like to close it? Katie's said all that needs to be said in her last post, so I don't think there's anything to add.

It's very true that Millfield have been unfairly treated in the past couple of years in terms of 'lack of' publicity for their outstanding results but it is also very sad to see that they have belittled some of the other teams efforts in this thread.

Just to keep things interesting. The program notes said that Millfield swimming is open to any current or past pupils. Lucky there were no cheap flights from Florida then!
Incidently there were not many "clean" clubs. Check out the rankings for Crediton and Scunthorpe not to mention the odd swimmers who dont actually appear on the Britsh rankings! Seems incredible that they were registered last October and haven't swum a licensed meet since.

Katie is an absolute legend and knows where I'm coming from. The rest of you, I have not belittled any effort at all, it was just friendly banta between two rivalling west country teams. I truely beilieve every team that made the finals are quality. Look at Plymouth, quality, they should have won in there first A final if we wern't present as consolation finallist....that speaks for it self!! Awesome!!

Maybe you should just be big enough to say sorry, and then allow your clubs' success to do the talking!.
