I see that USA SWimming is offering $1 million if their swimmers win either Mens 1500m or Womens 800m Free in Athens 2004, and break a world record!
Does US have any history in distance events and should Grant be worried?

On the men's side I guess it's down to Vendt and Thompson, both are pretty good, but I can't see them breaking Perkins' world record, or challenging Hackett for that matter.

For the ladies, Brooke Bennett. I'm sure she'll be targetting the 800 WR to keep her motivated for 2004. The current 800 WR holder is the American Janet Evans, so yes they do have tradition.
