Please advise/recommend diet and drink that should be consumed when training for swimming competition at County level.
Thank you in anticipation.
Your coach should be able to get information for you. The old Swim 2000 info. had some great stuff on diet and fluid intake by Peggy Wellington. If you cannot get access to this, similar infomation can be gained from "The Handbook of Swimming" by David Wilkie. Also check out anything on the ASA website os The American Swimming Coaches Association site.

There are many 'diets' available for atheletes to choose from. As a mother of 3 active children I try and think of balance. Protein, carb and fat. My mother always said to me that protein builds muscles! The old saying 'meat and 3 veg' has alot to be said for!
My recomendation would be The Zone which Richard Quick uses for the US womens team. I (at 35ys old) used it last year with my training and found it excellent for keeping up energy levels. How that would be helpful for a teenager I'm not sure but maybe worth investigating! There are books to read on it and a web site: www.zonediet.com (http://www.zonediet.com)
As regards fluids there are so many so called sports drinks to choose from. I could not personally recomend anything as I hate the taste of all sickly sweet drinks ie: squash! Water, water and lots of it!!!
Let us know how you get on with regards your coach and your own investigations.
