View Full Version : A couple of additions to the site ...

Those of you who visit the forums by coming through the front page at www.swimclub.co.uk (http://www.swimclub.co.uk/) might well have noticed that there are a couple of differences ....
Firstly, I have added a button to the side bar with which you can donate funds (via Paypal (http://www.paypal.com/)) to help support SwimClub.co.uk. Funds donated through this link do not go towards my retirement fund (or my Fastskin fund!) but rather to pay the fees for the maintenance of the site. Any donation, large or small, is very gratefully received.
Secondly, I have succumbed to the evil demon that is online advertising!!
I have joined an affiliate program and will be (for now) displaying web advertisements for UK Swim Store (http://www.paidonresults.net/c/5945/3/58/0). They suggest that:
We are dedicated to bringing you the best active swimwear from around the world, including Diana and Maru for men and women.
They have a lot of nice kit, and SwimClub.co.uk gets 10% commission for every sale introduced through the banner, so everyone get buying!!!
Seriously though, whilst I have mulled over the prospect of advertising certain swimming-related shops on SwimClub.co.uk, they all wanted something for nothing ..... and that was in nobody's best interest.
Let me know what you think .....

Still no direct link to the forums from the front page then eh? ;)

Something for nothing? Care to elaborate? Surely you were going to charge them for placing an advert!?
Chris, it's a good idea! It shouldn't really be left to you to pay for the site. I know many people have their own homepages and pay for those but in comparison to SwimClub they don't have as larger sphere of influence and I imagine they are quite a bit smaller in size and therefore cheaper to run. Also, It's not exactly extreme advertising and it's related to the site any way so not really wrecking the site or damaging it in any form, just think it could be bright, flash in your face , pop up and be a lot worse.
Actually I'll admit that I didn't notice the paypal button until I read about it in the post on the front page. Maybe that's because it requires paying? Who knows....
Keep the site going Chriskins! It's the best swimming site ever and loved by many users, a definite credit to yourself. Kepp it up young chap!

Bear with me young Steve ..... small steps, not giant leaps :p
And I'll come back to you privately on the other issue ....
Actually, just thinking about it and 10% is actually quite a bit considering how much a fastskin suit is. I think you got a good deal there Chris, as long as we all buy our goggles and things from there rather than Allens.

Tis a great shame they don't stock Speedo though. Maybe now's the time to buy a pair of Diana legs and see what they're like in comparison to Fast Skins...

Chris is there a new timing out thingy since the upgrade.
A couple of times I have found myself distracted by other things only to return to the forum and find that Linny is online and yet I am logged out, so I have to login to leave.
Your wish is my command Steve!Much better!

Surely there is nothing that could distract any of us from the forums (or should that be fora - you can tell I failed Latin O level!)?

Hey Boss
I too seem to be having trouble with timings.
It doesn't tell me I've logged out, just throws me out (nothing new there then).
Happens mainly when I back arrow for something or am trying to post something. I just log back in again.
