Scanning the ASA website awaiting this year's NQT posting (yawn) I noticed that provision is made in the ASA Swimming Calendar in 2005, 2006 and 2007 in early November for Regional Short Course Events.
This has bypassed Northern Counties/Northwest Region this year...no mention at all in local calendars although the LC Regional Championships are to be held at Manchester at the end of November
I wondered if this kind of event is commonplace in other Districts/Regions.
Hope that NW get this off the ground in 2006.

The new South East region has a longcourse winter champs 25/26 November. Not sure of any plans as yet for a shortcourse champs (would be nice though :D). Old Southern counties used to have shortcourse champs every November but this stopped from memory in about 2001.

Reference my posting of 5th October in which I expectantly highlighted ASA plans for regional short course championships, I perhaps should have waited!!!!
The ASA calendar was updated apparently on 9th October and reference to regional SC is deleted for 2006 onwards.. the regional LC championships are all brought forward to the first weekend of November and whilst there is nothing in the vacant late November slot in 2006, plans are in the offing for English Winter Championships at the end of November 2007 and a newly branded English National Championships at the end of November 2008.
These new events are a long time away but I wonder if these are envisaged to be LC or SC and as to other format details.

This is in my view a positive development for English elite swimmers particularly the aspiring younger swimmers. I note also that the European SC event follows a fortnight afterwards so the English Nationals should be a good warm up for that as long as the top athletes can hold their form for the Europeans.
