I'm sure we all know of dear swimming friends who have sadly died. I was at Sheffield this year and it occured to me that one or two familiar faces were not there. I know of one particular swimmer who always attended the championships who died earlier in the year.

Would it be possible to remember them in some way? A show of respect would give us a moment to reflect on past memories.

I'm not particularly in favour of a minute's silence, or even a mention in the programme, but maybe we could hear their names and clubs announced, possibly before the men's final heat of, say, the 100 free? I think if we asked for a minute's rapturous applause it would be fitting, and would create a positive atmosphere before we could admire the fastest swimmers at the meet.

Any ideas/thoughts/opinions? What do you think?

JL, having lost (what a weird term) my Father this year, what a brilliant idea of yours - a minute's rapturous applause . Life, even that thas has passed should be applauded, I am more than up to cellebrate it in this way. :rainbow:

Agree entirely.

Swimmers at the meet in October could give names in to Omega suite and the names announced.

I think maybe after an event not before the final heat. As one of the guys who had to sit around whilst the technical problem was fixed this year I feel it not fair to those in last heat.

Having read Alan's reply, I tend to agree.

Maybe the name could be announced if they had achieved some renoun or recognition in the Masters' Arena.

Yes, perhaps announcements for people who were British record holders at the time of their death, but I also like the idea of a list somewhere that people can submit details to. Someone at my club mentioned to me he'd noticed that someone who always attended wasn't there this year, and wondered if he'd died, would be nice to be able to find out.

How about a page at the start end of the programme? That way people could be remembered.
