The NQT information document on the BritishSwimming website states, in the absence of fixed QTs in each age group,

"Swimmers may enter the Boys 800 free and the Girls 1500 free by submitting times achieved at Licenced Meets. In each case the fastest 30 swimmers will be accepted."
It is not clear whether only LC times will be accepted or whether SC times (or converted SC times) can count towards the "fastest 30" in each age group.
Many swimmers and parents are presently uncertain as to the position.
Does anyone know what British Swimming intend in this regard?
The "Rules" (as opposed to the current info/guidance) need to be issued as soon as is possible to resolve the uncertainty. Otherwise swimmers could target SC times only and argue that in the absence of clarification to the contrary, by the time it is too late to gain times at LC, they have been given the expectation that LC and SC times will rank with equal priority. (nonsense of course in my view but I can foresee a problem if not sorted out)

Pro rata per age band? Or just because you are a big boy and 18, you are faster than the smaller 15 year old you are in and he loses out. However The ASA qualifying times make no mention of only 30 swimmers. So if you are 15 and have the ASA qt enter that event! Takes out the uncertainty! Oh yeah!

I had interpreted the NQT doc as suggesting there will be 30 X swimmers in each separate age group.
Rather proves the point about it all being clear as mud!!!!!!

Here's the link to the NQT doc for anyone who is wondering what this is all about

I would suspect that long course entries will take precedent and that the 30 will be an equal number from across the age groups (rather than 30 from each) but it is an issue we are all clouded by

Perhaps someone should contact ASA National Events and ask them?

From the looks of it the 30 swimmers only apply into the BAGCAT comp. In the Youth championships there are actual qualifying times.

I did just that and here's a brief resume of the ever helpful ASA National Events staff advice.
These 800 boy and 1500 girl events are being run on a "trial" basis this year. They will be open to the 30 fastest combined age groupers (11-13 girls and 12-14 boys) by individual invitation only(although the race entry fee will have to be paid). If one of the fastest 30 decline, then the 31st fastest will be invited and so on.
Long course only times will be accepted.

Full details will no doubt be contained in the Entry Information pack upon release.

I hope this helps.
