OK.
You've now spent some time creating your fabulous new web-site for your club. You've created some fantastic graphics and you're really proud of the page. Other club sites are now linking to your site and it's getting more and more people looking at it.
Trouble is, the URL for your site doesn't mean anything to anyone. Yes your site looks very good, but (http://members.mywebprovider.com/myclubsite) isn't exactly catchy!!!
Hundreds of thousands of domain names are being registered around the world every day. Why shouldn't you get in on the act?
If you shop around, you can buy a domain name for your club like:
www.myclub.com (http://www.myclub.com) www.ourclub.org (http://www.ourclub.org) www.ourswimmingclub.co.uk (http://www.ourswimmingclub.co.uk)
There are lots of places to register your domain name, but I few to start looking at are:
Domainbuster (http://www.domainbuster.com)
UK2.net (http://www.uk2.net)
Ace Internet (http://www.ace-internet.co.uk)
Easily.co.uk (http://www.easily.co.uk)
An alternative to paying for the name is getting a free .co.uk domain. Freenetname (http://www.freenetname.co.uk) are one of the companies that offer you this service. They will host your site your nothing as well. There are certain terms and conditions you have to abide by though.
Having now looked at the Freenetname site, I see that they
have stopped doing free names.
You generally pay for your domain name for 2 years, and after that you have the choice of renewing or giving up the name.
Now that you have a domain name, you need somewhere to host it. Some of the companies named above will host your site as well (some may charge a small additional fee for this). Other web hosts to consider are:
Portland Communications (http://www.portland.co.uk)
Freeola (http://www.freeola.com)
Freedom 2 Surf (http://www.f2s.com)
There you go. You should now be up and running with your site!!!
