Does anyone know the best time of year to go skiing in Europe - mainly eastern europe?

Looking at Skiing holidays but have never been on one before so not sure where is good (and cheap!!) or what time of year to go.

Thanks :)

First weekor two in January is the cheapest, but this is when it snows so it's cold. If you go towards the end of March it is hot & sunny and nice snow, although sometimes melting. I've tried Andorra which is average prices and fantastic skiing (Arinsal or Vall d'ordino recommended) and the season runs November to April easily. I've just been to St Johann/Alpendorf in Austria and the weather (sunny) and snow and slopes were fantastic, though it's not the cheapest. I've a friend that recommends Bulgaria as dirt-cheap and very good skiing. Switzerland tends to be very expensive, there is loads of choice in France, and Italy is often cheap too. Here are a couple of websites to try:
www.igluski.co.uk
www.equityski.co.uk
www.bulgariaski.com

or google usually comes up with some good results - look out for the special offer prices - Firstchoice had some good deals earlier in the year.

When you look at prices, take into account ski/boot hire, ski lessons, lift passes - these 3 together will add £200 - £300 onto your basic price for flights and accommodation. Some websites allow you to go right through the process and pick the packages you want and give you a total cost which is good for comparisons. If you want it easy - choose equity ski - they give you the final full package price with everything included and you hardly need to do anything!

Hope this all helps

If it is your first time then you need to make sure that you can get lessons in English. Unless you can speak whatever language they speak in your chosen destination :)

If you are going to Eastern Europe, avoid very early season or very late season because snow conditions are not reliable. If this is your first time, you really don't want to be learning on ice or rocks. So go for late January to the end of March (avoiding the school half term week).

Also look at Andorra. Very cheap and somewhat higher, so snow conditions are more reliable.
