Looks like it will be available in English later
I wonder if Fran Halsall can break the Junior record set by Franziska VAN ALMSICK. She came very close last year and has already gone a 55 in the heats. Good luck to her.
The girls seem very strong this year and hopefully some of the guys can match their performances.

Little Kis - just a peck then!
Wow I would love to see the girls splits in the 4x200 free relay. For a bunch of 15 and 16 yr olds to go 8.11 is incredible!
Lots of medals already and both girls and boys. Very encouraging!

Hey Gina, can't get on the site at the moment but the splits were something like Fran Halsall 2.02, Nat Durant 2.03.8, Lizzie Simmonds 2.03.5 and Rachel George 2.02.2! Impressive stuff. Also great swimming by the boys!
Is Georgia Davies's 1.03 100 back a new welsh record? It'd be great if she could get a medal tonight! Oh, I just had a look at the ASA press release, and it is a welsh record, well done Georgia!!
Did Sasha Matthews swim at all?

Did Sasha Matthews swim at all?
No, not her fault, she wasn't given a chance. She was feeling fine on the day of the relay, and they should have swum her in the heats obviously, because even if she'd done a 1.02 there was no way that team wasn't going to make the final.

I disagree Katie. They have learnt from last year, they rested fran for the heat and just missed out on a final place when infact they should have got medals. I magine there was a swim off. I am glad they did not make the same mistake again. Obviously feel for Sasha though.

There wasn't a swim off until AFTER the event, for final places. I don't think this was really fair, to be honest! I don't mean that other people in the relay didn't deserve places because they all did, but as there were only 10 teams in the entire event I think there was NO chance they weren't going to make the final.

Swimming off after the event seems crazy, just what you need another pressure swim before the final!
Only ten teams where did all the others go?
I still think they had to be cautious after last years blunder.

Actually one swimmer did have to do time trial on her own to see if she could make the heat team. That swimmers place was then under threat from the swimmers in the swim off for the final.
Although I agree that the way some of the swimmers were treated was v.unfair, I don't think it was just Sasha who was treated this way. It sounded like a bit of a shambles from an organisational perspective imo.

I don't see the use of taking swimmers if you do not intend to use them. If they are not going to be in the pool at some point then don't bring them. These kids are not spare tyres.
The relay selection policy should be spelled out clearly to everyone before the meet so that there are no deckside gut punches. If the US and Australian teams bring swimmers along just for the relay then they always get in the water. If there were legitimate concerns about qualifying that would be different.

Hands up which of you have ALL the information about the reasons for the selection of that, and any of the other relays in Palma?
It is clear that some of the judgements made above were made without possession of all the relevant facts and information.

OK, let's try again.
Barring a health or conduct issue she should have been included for the heat swim.
Before the thread gets too diverted onto 'who should have swum what' in the relays i would like to give my congratulations to the whole team on the results in Palma. We seem to have been a little low key (on this site) in our acknowledgement of the results, perhaps because a lot of the medals were won by swimmers from whom (despite still being young) we have almost come to expect good results. That should not take anything away from their considerable achievements - i for one have very much enjoyed following the results and i look forward to fwhat i hope will be continued success for the swimmers as they progress through to the senior ranks.

OK then, enlighten us to the remainder of the facts.

I would say I know all the facts. And I think she was treated unfairly. But they still did jolly well and there's nothing anyone can do about it now. :)

I am pretty sure I do too and agree that there was unfair treatment. Anyway it was a top performance by the team out there, well done to all.

I think they had to put out the strongest team on the day, and I guess that is what they did. It is sad for the lass that did not swim but I would not say unfair. The aim of the game is to win races not give everyone a turn.

Absolutely! It was a very good overall team result. GBR was 3rd overall on both total medal and gold medal counts, and second overall on the points score using the official LEN scoring system. GBR had more finalists at this meet than any other European Juniors in history and it was our best ever medal haul at a European Juniors not held in Britain (only Glasgow in 2003 had more).

I think the boys' team has been a bit overshadowed this year, they did brilliantly I thought, but most of the coverage has seemed to be about the girls. So well done the boys too.
