Here is a link to these championships, which take place 23-27 August this year - they have guesstimated medals per country based on worldwide rankings for swimmers born 1989 and later. Should make for an interesting competition, depending on who actually makes the journey after a busy summer!

Yes I hadn't thought that we were going at all but I saw on the FINA website that 5 GB swimmers are provisionally down to attend.

Possibly 7, 3 boys and 4 girls.

Does not seem fair at all if there is no selection policy that allows all eligible swimmers to have a chance of qualifying for the meet.

The FINA site doesn't include entries from China, USA, Australia, Korea or Japan at the moment. I do hope it turns out to be a truly "world" championship - I for one would love to see the young Chinese in action. Perhaps it is considered too far, too expensive and too late?

China will not let out its juniors. They have to make up names for them from the communal passport collection they keep.
In 99 all but 2 Chinese divers were sent back from Prague Airport for having completely unrelated passports ! Since then they dont turn up at World junior Diving Champs .

No, the boys are going straight back to Oz after the Youth Nationals.

Thats because British Swimming couldn't make their mind up whether to do the meet or not.

Thats because British Swimming couldn't make their mind up whether to do the meet or not.It depends how you view life TandB. As a girlie, I just see this as making up your mind lots of times, that's why girlies should never be in charge.

I find this as funny as I do racist jokes - in case you misunderstand, not at all.
I am not generally known to have had a humour bypass, but sorry, in this instance I find nothing about your post the least bit funny.

Thanks SPW. You have confirmed my suspicions. My info came from the family diver who I think did not concentrate on the diving in Aachen.
I never looked at the results . According to her the only memorable thing was the cows , the free lunch buffet & that the British put their girls in a city hotel away from Alex Despartes amorous adventures.
I usually got a desciption of the pubes -or lack of -upon the Chinese competitors -so I assumed they werent there.

At the 2004 titles in Brazil many Braziians were spotted.Yeah, has anyone noticed how in the football adverts for gillette the camera scans round the crowds and focuses on guys from each country with shaved bits on their heads dyed with flags or the colours of their country. Then when the camera reaches the Brazil section it isn't a guy it's a girl bouncing her boobs up and down and cheering and she has a full head of hair with no shaved bits at all - funny that!

You are being sold a lesser variety Pandicus indeed possibly a fake.. The greater variety has solid musculature with a good smooth sub cutaneous adipose layering giving effect to rounded buttocks & upper legs. Brazilians shake that booty because half their wages go in waxing it bare & glossy.
So back to the Youth topic....these comps are very educational & competitiv& ought to be good fun.. But then again divers are very much smarter than swimmers.

Like lost in finland said, the rumor going around on the USA Swimming forum is that the USA and AUS are boycotting in protest against FINA. I had a feeling the US wasn't going but I'm surprised to see AUS is not.

Back on topic I hope after some of the "unsavoury" comment above...gerkins...ugh
Final GB entries now appear to be 2 male and 5 female swimmers.
Has anyone seen a list of selected swimmers or a selection policy?

Is anyone yet any the wiser as to who is going (swimmers and/or coaches)?
It was revealed in an ASA press bulletin during the National Youth Championships on 3 August that Xavier Mohammed was to compete in Brazil but that info apart I haven't seen anything else. Do I detect a lack of enthusiasm on the authorities' parts for this event?....or have I just missed the announcements?
Competition starts on Wednesday so hopefully those going do know!!!

The British squad comprises: Georgia Davies (Swim Swansea); Alex Warren (University of Bath); Jemma Lowe (Stockton); Rachael George (Hatfield); Ceri Unwin (Hatfield); Xavier Mohammed (Bexley); Jonathan Quinn (Hatfield).
From British Swimming Press Release (http://www.britishswimming.org/vsite/vcontent/content/transnews/0,10869,5026-142440-19728-28293-261841-9137-5014-layout73-159656-news-item,00.html)

Thanks for the link Steve.
Whilst it seems there was no formal selection policy there is little doubt the selected swimmers are top performers. It will be interesting to see if the competitors can maintain or even improve on the high performance levels reached at the ASA National Youth Championships at this Event.
I note also that several of these swimmers are due to take part in the UK Scchools Games at Glasgow on 9th September so quite when they are to get that essential rest period I do not know!!!
