A NOVICE is a swimmer who has NEVER been placed first, second or third in an individual race final in any stroke they wish to swim, in any event, IN ANY YEAR, above club level (i.e. a swimmer who has been placed first, second or third on freestyle in an event above club level may compete in all strokes EXCEPT freestyle).
