Hi All,

The Great Swim is basically just that, two days of swimming in lakes, rivers and lidos in and around London. This year's takes place July 22/23.

Webpage is here:
http://www.thegreatswim.co.uk/

As long as I can arrange overnight accomodation and transport between venues (I don't drive) I intend to make the 200 mile journey down there as I've always wanted to experience all those famous swimming places like Tooting Bec, the Hampstead Ponds and the Serpentine.

Pete, you could contact the London Pools Campaign www.londonpoolscampaign.com or the South London Swimming Club (Tooting Bec Lido) and see if anyone could help. Or i can put a message for you on the Yahoo Lidos group website: (Lidos History Society) run by Oliver Merrington; anyone can read the messages there, but only members can "post". The weblink for SLSC is on www.savebroomhillpool.org.
Let me know.

Thanks - yes please do.:thumb: I'd be arriving at Victoria Coach Station or Euston (depending whether I use coach or rail). For overnight accomodation I have a tiny 1-man tent so only need the use of a large garden. I'd need ferrying between venues with another participant - with a contribution towards expenses, naturally.

I've sent an email to the address given on the website.

I've got plenty of room in my webspace to post loads of pics - and a waterproof digital camera!

The organiser, Adam, has informed me that transport and camping facilities will be arranged. He can be contacted at: thegreatswim@hotmail.com

He's also let me have some mouthwatering pics of previous events which I've posted on a rather hastily constructed page:

I'll tidy it up when I get some more details!

Have posted "news" of great swim on broomhill site and added adam's photos to photo gallery; particularly beautiful photo of Jesus Green lido in Cambridge.
