Thanks to all at Barnet for a great meet as usual. Particular thanks to Ian for letting me put my cards in a few mins late after a sat nav nightmare on the way there!
I'm sure Verity will be proud of your approach to pacing a 200 free, Ivor ;)
Yes Woolly Well'ard (and the power behind the throne - Jeanette) runs an excellent meet, well commentated and organised.
Always interesting and with a varied program of events.
Not the usual 4 x 50m strokes and a 100m IM for distance swimmers!
And he keeps the price down (ASA/GB take note).
It's a shame that so many people decided to watch Tim Henman win at Wimbledon, and England win the world cup (ha bloody ha) instead :joker:

Better to watch such entertaining World Records fall instead.

In another thread, there was a discussion on how to pace a 400, and Verity said
My philosphy is B***** the pacing get out there and hang on at least you know you've given everything.
Ivor certainly looked in immense pain on the last 50m, which took him almost 6 secs longer than the first 50m. Compare to Ian Thorpe's approach in setting his world record: 24.81, 26.64, 26.81, 25.80. However, as Ivor's 200 was 1.2 secs faster than mine, I'm in no position to criticise, really :D

Hi, I'm new to this forum having watched in awe for a number of months.
I was at Barnet last weekend. Am I right in thinking that 'Dunc' is the same Duncan who broke the world 200m freestyle record at the meet?
I didn't get the chance to speak to him but he seems like a nice boy.

Firstly welcome Rick.
Secondly to your highlighted comment :aarrgghh: (joking in case he takes offence)
Thanks Nerv.
That 'Aarrgghh' face looks like your last (and probably only) patient (I hope I'm joking too).
Hey Rick, it must have been a quick glance (both puns intended).
And yes, I even beat Ivor - by a whisker (or two)!

I thought it was you Dunc! Congratulations on getting the world record. 2:11 for 200 free is pretty fast. As an afterthought, you would be more than welcome to train with us sometimes. Someone of your ability would be a great asset to our training sessions.
We’ve got lots of sessions for you to choose from. Bring Spidey along with you too. We have his photo on our notice board showing his famous leggings. Maybe you could both come along together? You both seem like a couple of fun guys.
Monday 19:30 - 20:30
Tuesday 20:00 - 21:00
Wednesday 20:00 - 21:00
Thursday 19:00 - 20:00
Saturday 17:00 - 18:00
Sunday 19:00 - 20:00
Boys go to The Box pub on Thursdays after training. The beer is four quid a pint but it’s worth it just for the good company.

Would like to congratulate dunc again on his WR,i would like to think i helped him along somewhat as i was swimming next to him.
He got somewhat worried when we left him behind on the first 100 but he came back well on the 2nd where as i died completly after 150.
Enjoyed the meet though always well run.
Aah.
Typhoon, you are either Chris H or Marcel (who was in Lane 6).
There were only two swimmers who went out under a minute to beat me at the 100m mark (and the 200m mark, naturally).
In fact if it's Marcel, I want to thank you.
You said you thought you'd go out in around 1.03, so I tried to keep with you.
At 100m, over a body's length behind, I wondered (going through in 1.03) why I was so knackered.
Even at the end I thought I'd done a poor time, maybe 2.14.
It's a good learning experience though, normally splitting evenly, this time you 'forced' me to swim hard from the outset.
I'll have to add this to my "Race Strategy for Beginners" book.
