Hi,

A first post any help appreciated.

I would like to join a club of open water swimmers in the Herts, more specifically St Albans area if possible, I harbour a long term ambition of completing a channel swim.

Currently I do just an annual one miler (Midmar Mile in Howick) in South Africa on my annual visit to see parents.

I would like to tie up with a coach/group who may have a schedule for attempting the channel next year, for which I could begin training.

I am a relatively fit chap, but very aware of the extent I would need to raise my game for my lofty ambitions, fortunately I work from home and have time for preparation and preferably 1 on 1 or group coaching for such an event.

Any advise on clubs in my area and coaching groups or trainers for this event appreciated.

Regards

I do not know, geographically where St Albans is, but you should see one here, near you.

Hi,

We do not do Open Water or particularly long distance but St Albans Masters train 4 times a week for a hour at either Westminster Lodge or St Albans High School for Girls. We have between 2-6 lanes depending on the night and have a full mix of ability. Session example for fastest lane: 400m warm up, 12x100m Free on 2min, 2x(200m kick,200 pull), 12x50m I.M order on 1min. 200 swim down. Adapted by coach depending on each lanes swimming ability. For more details...http://www.costaasc.org.uk/

Also, I know TriForce have access to Open Water in the area. I believe it is north herts in the Blue Lagoon, although their website no longer appears to have details http://www.tri-force.org/index.php

Personnally, I dash around the M25 to Heron lake on a Sat/Sun morning. Takes 45 mins to get there but its very nice. They may have more info... http://www.sbrsports.com/heronlake.asp
