I received an e-mail at the weekend from someone regarding the proposed (???) change to the qualifying system for National Long Course championships.
Apparently (and when I've spoken to the chap concerned I'll try and publish his e-mail in full) you will not be able to qualify for Long Course National Championships by swimming in a short course event.
Effectively, that means the end of designated open meets (like our very own Barracudas Open) unless you are lucky enough to train and compete in a long course pool - that ain't many of us!!
I think you're all pretty aware of the problems this might cause. I know clubs like ours will effectively be prevented from competing at National Championships - the cost of travelling to compete Long Course would probably finish the club off.
Is this just a horrible rumour (my source suggested this came from someone quite high-up in the ASA!) or could this really be happening?
