After over 17 months of working in a secondary school as a cover teacher and suffering abuse, physical and verbal, on a daily basis I have managed to get another job. Went for the interview last week and had a verbal offer last Thursday. However, still awaiting a written offer and a start date. My new job is as a NHS health trainer working in my local area. The job entails helping people who have heart problems or other health issues and advising them on diet and exercise as well as organising exercise sessions and information events. This will be 100% less stressful than my current position and 100% more rewarding. Also another bonus is that it is flexi time so I will get a great deal more swimming sessions in during the off peak period at the health club when the pool is far less busy.:)

Good luck with the new job Zanshin, but won’t you miss working from 9.00 until 3.00 every day? With a long lunch break in the middle of it. Not to mention the free periods spent drinking coffee in the staff room?
And what about the three months holiday a year with full pay?
There aren't many teachers who would sacrifice such paradise to go and work in the National Health Service. Most of them are happy to stand at the front of the class and pick up their money at the end of every month - whether or not the pupil learns anything at all.
I admire you tremendously.

Congrats mate, im hoping theres something in the pipe line for me. Having just completed my level 1, i volunteered to help out at the school my missus works at, im not paid but im enjoying it and its great experiance + i need this to progress onto my level 2.. when the school found out i had a gym instructors ticket they asked me if i would also take their so called trouble kids for a lunchtime workout, this im also doing. Ive found these kids just need letting know whos boss, i have very little grief off them, they have learnt with me its PLAY HARD PLAY FAST BUT PLAY FAIR...Its my opinion there are NO BAD KIDS just poor parents and teachers. I daresay im gonna take some flak for that, but if i can go in there and take control why cant the teachers. I have no education training im just treating them as kids.. I must admit its a little weird when the Headmaster brings his teachers to watch me in action with the so called DIRTY DOZEN, i guess he is trying to show them up, i know some of them have took the hump and are now working to rule.. As i said im not been payed but im loving it, i think ive found what id like to do..
I totally agree Cougar. Kids can be changed. Most of the time their bad behaviour is from the environment so something called 'social learning'. Occassionally you get bad apples who are born that way, but every child should be given the benefit. Too much of the time kids are told that they can't do this and they will get good grades. Their parents can't control their kids properly or they don't care. I took the B-squad sessions for about 8 months and the lanes went from about 4-5 swimmers to 8+ every thursday. The head B-squad coach was 'walked all over' but the swimmers I coached were so well behaved. I encouraged the swimmers and told them what to focus on during their swimming. Kids respond so well to encouragement and I love it!

After what seems months of waiting I have finally got a start date for my new job - 16 April. So I have less than 2 weeks left in my current crappy job working as a cover teacher at a secondary school. I fly out to Florida on 30 March, fly back on 14 April and start work 2 days later, jet lagged I should imagine.

Don't worry about the jet lag at the moment, there's a long waiting list, so you should get it in about 6 weeks time unless you go private???

Many thanks JL:)
Stevie, I have decided to give all open water a wide berth and stick to the swimming pools.
Bully, I may be able to jump the waiting list for my jet lag, working for the NHS should have some perks!
