Sadly not on this occasion, I've decided to spend a week in Manchester instead.

Am I missing something, or have the Hungarian entries gone astray somewhere?

Those entries aren't there because the Hungarian Officials haven't faked their nationals and QT's yet. ;)

How would you like to be the pool announcer when Tojohanitra Andriamanjatoprimamama of Madagascar steps up to the blocks?

Hello everyone, you'll be delighted to know it's lashing it down with rain as I type this on Melbourne's South Bank...they need th rain though after a drought since the turn of the year.
Anyway, to answer an earlier question - the start sheets have been delayed - because they hadn't included the Hungarians - don't imagine Master Cseh would have been too happy with that.
The Americans have their second media conference tomorrow - more questions about Phelps going for 8 golds I imagine.
Good luck to our team, spirit seems good in the camp, and the 100 free is going to be quite a race - can Simon B win it for the red, white and blue?
take care one and all,
Bob B

Katie, where's the warm down pool? Is there a temporary pool in the Vodafone arena or something next door?
Woodward

The warm down pool is actually inside Rod Laver arena too!
Katie

Yes that's inside too, I was going to go in yesterday but they were doing Syncro in there. I'll try and get pics of that too!

The start lists are up on Omega.
Anyone know why David Davies is skipping the 800? Or Prilukov and Park for that matter? Davies swam the 800 in Barcelona and Montreal.

No Larsen Jensen either, though it could be because USA swimming uses both 400 and 1500 rankings from last year to pick the 800 swimmers, and Klete Keller, Erik Vendt, and Peter Vanderkaay all had better 2006 rankings than he did.
Looks like the corrections from the first draft have been made. The Hungarians have been entered now, and Rachel Komisarz is properly placed in the women's 100 fly.

Most of the distance guys are giving the 800 a miss. I think Grant is liking this. It shows they arent confident of their conditioning.

Yeah I noticed about Jensen but since I saw Vandy and Erik swimming I just assumed he wasn't given a spot. Yuri is not going to swim either as two other Russians are entered. Great Britain has nobody swimming the event. I don't know why David isn't swimming it. I don't know what Park's story is either.
There are two days off between the 800 evening final and the morning of the 1500 prelims. This is not an event the best swimmers have passed on at past World Championship meets. Strange.

Heats are live at midnight tonight on Eurosport (will be 1am other days due to clock change).
If you have Sky and NASN you can also get coverage of the Men's NCAA Champs at 6am Sunday morning. I've set my Sky+ to record it!

We've got Sky+ this morning and I've already set the recorder for all the live Eurosport coverage. Hopefully it will work.
Didn't see anything on the NCAAs but I will go check as they are a very exciting championships.

Gina, dont forget to use the series link.
When you have a program on the planner due to be recorded press the green and it will record the series.
Great little feature. I have the world cup highlights, holloaks, nip/tuck etc etc. Never miss an episode.
Series link on the swimming is a must
Steve have you programmed the swimming to be recorded. The guy that came to install it showed me how to do it all but when he tried to do the series thing on the swimming it wasnt there. On well it's all programmed so I won't worry!

Yesterday I switched on tv & saw the last 5 minutes of the preview show. I only saw Liesel Jones who is looking fabulous. Never have I seen anyone looking so relaxed before a big meet..She has her weight down -no excess post weights baggage-and very good complexion wise. Dont know how its going to translate for breastroke but she is looking good for her Tag Heuer shots. Not far behind Sharapova in the looks dept.
Bob Bowman has declared that the USA Team (men I presume )can win all events. Maybe those warriors can substitute at family dinners for those servicemen killed in Iraq. America is great again!
I think it might be a racing meet with the heats & semis being so hard that the final may be heavy going. Most of the top times of last year had very easy heats.
Good luck to all maybe not USA.- Im just not wishing them luck..may they have to earn it hard. Just when I was starting to feel sorry for them with Bush & Britney & the world tragedy of Anna -Nicole.
I especially wish the best to the Pakistani swim team. !!!!!###*** .

I am on Pakistani alert. So far They came last in the womens 200 im & 125th in the mens 50fly. Both were fractionally outside their qualifying times.
Therefore those betting on the young lady coming last are on the money but not so on the man. 125th is not close enough.
Not enough to warn CSI Melbourne yet.

So what do we think of the results from the first session?
Quite a few just missing the semi's/finals and i cant believe the mens relay didnt make the final!!
A 51 in the 100 free??? Poor guys going after must have been battling the waves! USA with half strength 4x100 team made it into 3rd. I'm looking forward to a WR in the finals! From the three races I saw this morning the top spot has gone to USA and GBR has finished miles behind.
One thing I don't like is the hat. They are all the same design. No more huge flags and names on the side. It's even harder to tell who's who once they've dived in.
Anyway, I'm off to Manchester, wish me luck!

Actually some of those swims by the U.S. were sluggish. I don't think the men's 400 relay record is under threat. The German women also looked sluggish in the heats but maybe they were just cruising? I think the Australians will take the women's 400 relay tonight ... after Schlanger and Reese swam so well in the morning. It looks like Mills won't be missed as much as I thought.
Duckie, Bowman said that the U.S. can contend for a Gold in every men's Olympic event. The Australian media are trying to spin his comments to say he predicted a sweep. He didn't.
Nice to see Joanne make the final. Caitlin just missed unfortunately. The heats for the 400 events and higher are going to be brutal. Solid effort from the British 4x100 team to get a place in the final. The strongest British relays (the 800 relays and the men's medley) are yet to come.

A poor opening for the Brits. No p.bs that I could see. Are we ging to flop again on the world stage?
Good split from Simon Burnett, must have been tough going off a 51+ opener.
Fingers crossed for our freestyle girls and breastroke boys tonight.
Good Luck!!!!
I need all the luck I can get to make it to Manchester (but not swimming of course!). Should have left just after I posted but my car battery has died and I'm stuck in the driveway. AA on the way. Thank god my heat swim is tomorrow evening so I can relax in the morning.
I thought Simon's time was very good seeing as he'd have been catching some serious waves. It all seemed very dull but for starters it's the heats and also I'm watching the TV so it is often deceptive.

Maybe a swim off would have helped
I think swimming our fastest team on the day would have led to a final place... do I sound like a broken record yet?

I've been thinking about this and I think that, Jensen aside, the others might simply be practising their Beijing programmes (the 800 not being an Olympic event of course)
