Webcams with licensed access a great idea (how about wireless as a start point so we can e-mail distribute live results as they happen). We've got support structure working overseas and really missing out on the team ethic/spirit of the swim. Webcams to be fitted to pools and controlled websites for meets with onlinre timing and webcam feeds organised by governing bodies should be a target, at least in my book. re. the brits no idea on live timing, looks like a possible busy phone line!!!!

I can't go either because of work but am having an 'admin week' at home (very well timed!). I do all our team's analysis so its great to do it from the comfort of home but I am missing the atmosphere.

I'm sorry I simply don't understand.

Results service useless as usual. Been waiting an hour for the 50 Fly results to go up as the heats. Relying on swimmer texting and as I say that mobile rings.

Can I just say that Hannah Miley appears to have smashed the British Record for 400IM - 4:40.07 - more than four seconds under. Great swim (and could be good enough for finals in Melbourne)

Difficult to qualify for the finals in Melbourne from the heats in Manchester though.

Wow - and she is not in Melbourne because....?Depending on how you view things she isn't in Melbourne because...

1) She didn't swim fast enough when it counted or
2) The selection policy was flawed

Take your pick....

And what a great swim to watch. She had a very high stroke rate on the backstroke that she maintained for the whole hundred. Looked like she'd been training for years with an aquapacer.;)

Are the live results crapping out for anyone else? They seem to be stuck on semi-final 1 of the men's 100 back and not adding any new results. I was excited for morning finals just so I would have something to keep me from working...:)

Same thing every year, webcam and live results work great the first day then hit n miss for the rest of the week whether they decide to work or not. :banghead:

There were problems with the scoreboard and timing system from the very first heat this morning and throughout the whole session so that will be why results online are not up. In fact this morning was quite a poor effort for a National meet. The meet ran behind schedule by over half an hour because of the timing delays. This meant some people were in the call room for anything up to 45 minutes as the organisers were still insisting people arrived at the call room 15 minutes prior to the published 'if the meet runs on time' schedule. The commentary also leaves a lot to be desired.

Are the finals being swum in the morning as preparation for Beijing? And isn't that a flawed theory given that most of next years team will be in Melbourne?

It was due to be swum at the end fo the time trials. Apparently there was some sort of protest going on but i don't know what about or how it was resolved.

Just on the hotel internet connection so very quick post. Having a great time with the Ealing crowd. I'm loving the morning finals, but others are moaning out of their backsides! I train at 5.20 in the morning so racing at 8am is a lie in. Have to say my 100 free was ok, but I wanted to go faster. Also well done to my teammates Jenna Turner for winning the 100 free junior final and Holly Mills for her 4th (3rd brit) in the 200 back. We had an awesome 4x100 medley relay team and I shocked myself with a 1.13 BR split. Looking forward to some more whining by a few select senior swimmers but it's a good laugh listening to them!!!

Thanks for all the help with the links - I have been trying to keep tabs, Stropedo 91 was a little dissappointed with his backstroke swim, he did a PB but wanted to swim faster, and he just missed the time for the 100 freestyle when he did the time trial. But I am proud of him just getting there, he is in Manchester without anyone else from the club, his coach could not get time off work and neither could his parents so is there with grandparents and this is the first time he has qulaified.
He has commented on why French and USA swimmers are allowed to compete in the British Champs and to win medals, unlike at Nationals where they get a commemorative medal!!! I had no answer but it does seem a little unfair to the British swimmers!!!

He has commented on why French and USA swimmers are allowed to compete in the British Champs and to win medals, unlike at Nationals where they get a commemorative medal!!! I had no answer but it does seem a little unfair to the British swimmers!!! It's because the powers that be want this to be considered more of a 'British Open' rather than a 'British Championships' - and thus foreign entries are encouraged. They take the view that the more foreigners the merrier, because it will make it more of an international meet on our own soil, and thus toughen us Brits up in our quest to win Olympic medals. And so its medals to the top 3 regardless of nationality, oh and although there are junior finals, there are no junior medals, no doubt because they need toughening up most of all!

Apparently by making racing and competition conditions awkward and difficult it will bring success at the Olympics, despite the majority of the prospective 08 Olympic team not being here. It is worth pointing out that at Beijing 08, morning finals will start at 10:00am, with heats commencing at 6:30pm. So by starting finals at 8:00am here we will be even more prepared for Beijing.

I think it's brilliant!

Just got back from nationals and I'd like to say that it was such a fun meet. Ealing did the treble on the womens relay and I bet Dave Heathcock was very pleased and proud of us. Also the only man of the team got a bronze medal in the 50 free so well done to Charlie too.

Regarding the junior medals, yes it would have been nice to give out some but it would have been tricky and would have caused problems seeing as some juniors were in the semis and some went to the junior finals. I didn't mind the French swimmers being there. It made me set my standards higher and, even though I didn't reach one of them, I still did ok. Plus the French men are a class above the Brits on offer last week (out of the pool not in)!!!

With the crowd, I think the most they clapped was during the disability events. It's pretty lifeless at senior nationals as you don't get so many parents attending because of the much larger percentage of older swimmers who tend to go without parents.

Do you know what your split was in the 4 x 200 free relay, Gina? The splits are messed up on the website, but from what is on there it looks like you certainly did a fast first 100!

I split a 2.09.0 on the 3rd leg. I dived in just behind Bath, but because I was so nervous about doing a 200 free at nationals I went out so slow!!! I was just concentrating on watching the Bath girl, but she was one of the slower swimmers and I turned in a 1.02 high IIRC. My 3rd leg was a 34 and my last 50 was a 32!!! The splits shown are Natalie's 2 100s and Jenna's first 100.
