Is it just me, or is anyone else really annoyed by the fact that FINA have made every country have a sponsor's logo taking up the whole of one side of their team hats? It's bad enough that the medallists have to wear those ridiculous patches on their fronts (I blame the organisers of the Indianapolis world SC for that one), but now it can make it hard to tell who's who when there are teams with similar coloured hats.

I agree it is awful.

It's probably a good thing that Duje Dragagna is skipping the meet because of injury. I think the poor boy is superstitous enough he would totally melt down if he wasn't allowed to swim with his lucky Cal Bears cap for the prelim heats.

It is quite confusing, because any country whose hat hasn't been made to the EXACT specifications of the organisers has to wear the black Fina/Yakult hat - without their country's name on it! A lot of people have been made to change their hats at the last minute in the call room. On the GB hats the union jack is absolutely tiny, you can barely see which country the competitors are from.

What can be done to overcome this?

Interesting to see Yakult advertised on the swimcaps at the world championships in Melbourne. This company has only recently started to divert some of its profits towards swimming and has chosen FINA to help them make its grand launch into the sport. They'll be pretty pleased with the television coverage achieved this week.

Yakult is relatively new to swimming and they haven't yet grasped the terminology the rest of us take for granted.

You would think that by describing themselves as ‘an official partner of FINA’ that their advertising department would have had some knowledge of swimming.

Their full-page advert in the FINA Aquatics World swimming magazine shows a swimmer, wearing a bodysuit, standing on the starting block. Above his picture appear the words - ON YOUR MARKS, GET SET, GO!

I just thought Yakult was some small obscure country having the meet of it's life

This made me laugh!

How can you live that close to Guildford and still be amusing?

I couldn't possibly be expected to comment - but flattery will get you everywhere. ;)

I have started writing letter about the ads on the caps. I have been told that the people to write about this are the national federations, but I got at least one message in to a Fina person. I had a really tough time keeping track of who was in what lane. I paid a ton of money to go to Australia and see that event, and my experience was made a less by the fact that I could not easily identify the swimmers.

I've been wondering about that. I was wearing Spidey's cap he'd loaned me for the occasion.

Are these available to legit members of swimclub?:)Yes! I still have some. I got them made a while back for a few saddos (myself included) to wear at masters meets; then I got WELL fat and stopped swimming (perhaps the two went hand in hand if you know what I mean) and never saw any of my fellow saddos anymore. As the result I still have some left and they are now getting in the way - still pristine though! Anyone who wants one can pm me and I will send them my address so they can send me a fiver and I will mail them one. They are silicone and very beautiful (http://www.swimclub.co.uk/forum/showpost.php?p=43526&postcount=17).

Anyway, I am now not quite so fat as I was so I may inflict myself on some of these competitions again and buy even more silly swimcaps......just need to think of a subject.....mmmm yakult mebbe, a picture rather than the word. :p
