Not sure if any of you have seen this, and apologies if I've missed a thread eslewhere, but I was quite astounded to find an article on swimming whilst scanning sky news. Even more astounded when I watched the video!!

Looks like a totally normal coach/swimmer relationship to me - with a bit more honesty in it than most. Mihail Zubkov should be charged. If he is not the whole world of swimming should hang it's head in shame. It is very clear from her body posture at the end that he is a habitual abuser.

Try going to Sky News without using the link to see if it makes a difference...

I've seen this kind of father/daughter abuse before.

I wasn't the only person to witness a coach hitting his swimmer (who was also his daughter) when on the poolside at Coventry. He was known for it. She was a good swimmer, and he was a good coach too.

Was it reported to the proper authorities Juicy and what happened?

We're going back a few years. A fellow coach spoke to the then president of the ASA who was at the pool. He replied, "Oh not again. I'll have a word with him about it."

As I said, swimmers, parents and coaches all knew he was 'slapping' her. Word spreads through swimming quicker than the internet. I would guess that most people in Midlands swimming who were around at that time know who I'm referring to.

They showed the extended video on the news here, and it's in no way a normal coach-athlete relationship. Some of my favorite coaches were screamers and chair-throwers. They were passionate people, and that's how they were when they got angry when they thought we were slacking off.

But you cross a line when you hit one of your athletes, one that is underage, doubly so. He crossed a line you just don't cross, and should be banned from the sport for his actions. It's like it's something straight out of a Soviet-era Romanian gymnastics school.

You tube had a much longer video, it's amazing it ended when he sat on her but apparently they had to cut it short and you have to be over 18 to view!

As I said, a normal coach-athlete relationship. At least he was frightening his own daughter and not someone else's I guess. Screamers and chair-throwers coaching? Anyone else think that's ok? Not on my watch.

Seriously though I've seen the video and it's terrible, surely somebody must have been there to step in, but if they had would that have just masked the problem with the abuse going on elsewhere, nobody ever knows what goes on behind closed doors.

With regard to Coventry I hope they spend some money before the schools games in August, the viewing area is filthy and a disgrace and in the gents by the cafeteria area not one cubicle of four has a lock on the door, let's all hope Birmingham gets its 50m pool.
