Melbourne 2007 -- phelps steals the show, but britain toils again
It was quite a week in Melbourne, faster than even the most optimistic observer could have hoped as the swimming world continues to move forward apace. Britain meanwhile encouraged in some areas but overall failed to deliver on the promise that had been shown in 2006.
Melbourne 2007 -- opinion: only one name sticks in the memory from melbourne
There's only one name that sticks in the memory following the World Championships in Melbourne and perhaps surprisingly it's not Michael Phelps. Not even Laure Manaudou.

Competition -- Splash Awards tickets to be won
There's still time to enter the competition to win tickets to the Splash awards. All you have to do is answer this simple question:
How many Commonwealth medals did Karen Pickering win during her career?

Too right Steve.
The one name that sticks -YAKULT
Sponsorship is great but like it really helps a sport to make everyone look the same. FINA are a waste of space. They should never have agreed to the hat specs. Not difficult to have a hat that shows off sponsor and nationality.
As for the product
Yakult contains: water, skimmed milk (reconstituted), glucose syrup, sugar, flavouring and Lactobacillus casei Shirota bacteria.
Yakult Light contains: water, skimmed milk (reconstituted), glucose syrup, sweeteners (maltitol syrup, aspartame), dextrin, flavouring. citric acid and Lactobacillus casei Shirota bacteria. Contains a source of phenylalanine.
Really healthy yeah!

It's the live bacteria that are supposed to be the drink's health attribute.
However similar bacteria are present in common-or-garden live yoghurt which I consider to be a much tastier (and cheaper) alternative.
I must admit I don't get the idea behind so-called "probiotics". These are live bacteria which when inside you will multiply until the optimal numbers are reached. So what is the point of pouring even more down your throat?
You really only need to top-up your complement of gut bacteria when:
a) You have had bad guts, when the additional "good" bacteria will help your system overwhelm the disease organisms
and/or
b) You have been taking antibiotics which will also kill off your "good" gut bacteria. That's why antibiotics can cause the "squits".

Especially since most of them are killed by stomach acid anyway.
