I have looked at entry form via the following link

http://www.sportcentric.com/vmgmt/vfilemgmt/page/filedownload/1,8202,5026-49221-117576-0-file,00.pdf

I think they have tried to clarify rules for swimmers age 18-24, but not been successful.

With regards to 72 plus relays, they are covered in rule 2 and rule 3, but the two rules seem to contradict each other.

Rule 2 includes following words “Below the age of 25 as 31st December 2007”
Rule 3 includes following words “These teams may include swimmers over the age of 25”

I assume they have not proof read what they wrote and mean Below the age of 25 as 31st December 2007 for 18-24 events in rule 2 and over 18 to compete in relay.

What happened to the command of English?

Alan, the entry form is a difficult read every year. You should be used to it by now. The rest of us are.:banghead:

In an effort to simplify the rules the Masters Committee have complicated matters more than ever. Their attempt to make it clear by filling the pages with verbal diarrhoea has misfired.

They always slip in a rule about swimmers who share a lane having to wear a swim hat - knowing that this rule could not be legally enforced anyway. Some older swimmers get very hot in the longer events and when someone dies because of overheating you won’t see the ASA for dust. Believe me, the Masters Committee will have to carry the can for :banghead: such an unfortunate accident. Anyway, I’ve told my family to sue the Committee if I die mid-swim.

The problem with the 72 years team is that they can’t be called Masters. The Masters Committee came up with the term, ‘Senior Age Group Team’. Everyone else calls it a 72 years masters team which makes the Committee bristle with annoyance every time they hear it uttered.

I like rule 01.04 which states that a competitor must have been a registered member of the club at least 60 days prior to the competition. An interesting rule which some swimmers and Masters Committee members have difficulty adhering to. The rule is clearly for us, not for them.

Rule 02.06 is seriously flawed too. ‘The closing date shall be a maximum of 28 days before the first day of competition’. The closing date is 16th May and the competition starts on 15th June. Which means that this closing date is 30 days before the competition starts. What would happen if an entry arrives 2 days after the closing date? It would still comply with the 28 day rule. The Masters Committee do seem to leave themselves open to legal action. (Surprising really, considering who...)

The Entry form I have received by post is a real scream! It asks me to sign the back of the form and return it together with the form which is printed on the front of the sheet!!!

If I could send the front of a sheet of paper, without there being a back to it, I’d be on stage in Las Vegas instead of sitting here writing inspiring literature in an effort to educate all and sundry on SwimClub.

The thing with the hats is that the ones given to swim in are latex and I can not wear latex on my head.

I wear a cloth cap (not sure of the material) which lets water in and keeps my head cooler than when wearing a silicone cap which I leave to when I'm sprint racing.

These might be an idea for those of you who dont like latex.

Thank you racheybabes. Whilst that is an option, the hat you are given at this event is latex.

Hats
....this is a subject very close to my heart cos I hate wearing them. I think I finally got the officials to agree that they would take a common sense approach to this and only insist on swimmers wearing hats in the event that it is difficult to distinguish between the two swimmers who turn up to swim in one particular lane. So if two swimmers turn up with black bodysuits, and neither wishes to wear a cap then they could both be made to wear a cap. However if you can ascertain earlier on that the two of you will be in different colour swim suits and different colour hats or one with no hat and the other with a hat then that should be ok.

As for the age groups are you volunteering to proof read these?

So no hat for me as long as I wear the fluorescent pink legs. Unless some-one with black jammers and a bad sunburn is swimming in my lane.

The only problem is I will not be swimming the 800 or 1500, and will therefore have a lane to myself anyway :)

Adam - what if we both were doing the 800m and or 1500m event and were in the same lane? I would think that the official would need sun glasses.

Oh I totally missed the entry date for this meet. Now that we don't have LC counties I need a meet before nationals.

Thanks for giving us the link.

As Manchester is on our door step, we have 20 swimmers entered in individual events for the GB's and some just doing relays and socialising. Our home banker (Harold Dodd 88 years young) for 6 gold medals is not swimming this year. Unfortunately he fell and broke his arm and is only just recovering, he says he will back for Sheffield though. He is safer in the water than on his feet.

What's that Alan. I thought we did the socialising in those amazing training sessions on Sundays in the Pub. Don't need to go to the Aquatics Centre for that.

As to Harold ...hope he get's well soon. The 20 swimmers have been duly primed to come back with PB's.

That's our lad Ashley. He's a New Zealander by birth and does everything quickly....including filling in his entry form by the looks of it.

The length - or lack - of hair is not a consideration.

Thanks for that Spidey,

I've just noticed that the entries include one Cheryl Brazendale of Blackpool who for the trivia geeks amongst us was the first British Woman to go sub 60 seconds (way back in 1976 I think) should be interesting to watch.

re-reading the rules I noticed there was provision to swim 2 swimmers per lane for the 400 (free) as well as the 800 and the 1500.

Does any-one know which of the races, if any, will be swum 2 per lane.
