The new Swimming and Diving Centre is due to open on September 29.
50m pool with the latest technology (we are promised) with separate air conditioning for spectator facilities. Cafe on site plus extensive car parking.

Downside is that the facility has no hotels in the vicinity.
Site can be found on Google Earth as home of Hunslet Hawks RLFC.

First meet is Co Leeds Junior Open Meet on the following weekend of Oct 6/7.

This pool could be the fastest in the UK.

So what's happening to the infamous ceiling, that put many a backstroke swimmer out of line?

I believe the current Leeds pool is actually short (by a gnats...).... The pool / structure was built to 50mtrs in length - THEN it was tiled, thus reducing the length.

The pool will be 50m long (10 lanes) with submersible booms.

As for the roof, we were hoping to take the roof to the new site, but couldn't get it out of the car park.

Easiest way is to hold a team gala, invite Hatfield (best supported team at speedo final) and they will take the roof off!!!
Please don't close this thread just because I mentioned Speedo Final?

Hi

Hatfield may have been the best supported team at Speedo League, but only because NER are not allowed to compete under new rules.

Prior to changes, who were the last club outside of NER and Portsmouth to win Speedo League?

The pool sounds nice. Shame it's even further north of Sheffield and Manchester!

Oh and City of Leeds used to be a good team but you don't tend to see them around much at nationals

What is going on with the Leeds website - can't get in to it. Does anyone else have this problem or is it just my browser (AOL)?

Any thoughts swimleeds?

Cheers

Clearly not looking far!!
ASA National Age Groups 2006 Top Club Points:
1st Gallica (Lancashire) 237
2nd City of Leeds 198 points
3rd Middlesbrough 179 points
4th Newburn 167 points
39th Guildford 36 points!!

Clearly not the wonderful club that we read about on this forum, or dont results matter?.

Interesting that the top four are not competing in the infamous Speedo League but get results where it counts!!

Perhaps the pool should be rebuilt using the Elland Road Football ground -

I'm not sure of the year of the changes, but I'd imagine you mean 2004 (since that was the last time the NER took part I think) so 1986 Stockport Metropolitan SC at Coventry then 1985 Norwich Penguins at Crystal Palace

But Gallica are a composite squad and hence ineligible for Speedo league? Plus Speedo tests more than just Age Group strength - if they were in the top 4 at youths and senior nationals well then you may have a stonger point (I can't find the results of those on the ASA site)

Yeah I haven't really taken a good look at age group results over the last few years. I remember Leeds being really strong in the 14-18 age group but I suppose things come and go and in a few years the age group swimmers will come up to youths and there'll be some City of Leeds swimmers on the radar again.

:thumb: - THUMBS UP TO A NEW POOL HOWEVER
:banghead: - WHY SO FAR FROM THE CENTRE OF LEEDS???

I swim at Leeds pool on my lunch hour sometimes. As a 25m trainer its good to get a feel of a 50m pool - even if it is a very slow pool.

They could do so much more with it - its not like there needs to be any more apartments in Leeds.
