View Full Version : Swimming Canada To Re-Select Commonwealth Games Team

Ottawa - Following the decision of an internal appeals panel released last night, Swimming Canada's selection committee has been instructed to review the selection of a portion of the 2002 Commonwealth Games team.

At issue is the wording of the selection criteria which, depending on the world ranking time and quality of a swimmer's performance at the recent Commonwealth Games Trials, could allow for the discretionary selection of bronze medalists (Category E of the selection process) over silver medalists (Category D of the selection process).

It sounds like a bit of a shambles doesn't it (how may "categories" are there for selection?!) - makes us look quite organised in comparison! i remember reading at the time of the Canadian trials that there was some unrest at the selections.

The criteria really should be made so that it is sufficiently clear for everyone to know where they stand - it sounds as though those that set the criteria were trying to be too 'clever'.
