Very interesting selection policy (http://www.sportcentric.com/vmgmt/vfilemgmt/page/filedownload/1,8202,5157-51138-123581-0-file,00.pdf), although pretty much as was intimated in the last minute.

Really not sure about the "compulsory to attend" clause for Olympic pre-qualifiers with the following sanction - British Swimming will impose a fine of £500 on any swimmer who withdraws from the team for any reason other than illness or injury (as certified by an independent medical advisor approved by British Swimming Medical Staff) and their place on the 2008 Olympic team will be subject to a review by the National Performance Director. What's that all about?

The bit up to then end of the close brackets is on all selection policies now. I suppose it's to stop swimmers saying that they're available via an Availability Form, British Swimming investing in hotels, flights etc and then the swimmer saying 'oh I'm not coming now cos my dog's having puppies' or something similar

And the 'no replacment policy' on most teams would mean that that investment was wasted

A deterrent I would say ;)
