There was a bit of an incident at Coventry pool today whereby someone was sick in the pool and it wasn't reported so a few heats went ahead before one eagle eyed lad spotted it. The pool was cleared but someone(who had probably emigrated by now) switched the pump to blow not suck and all the debris came into the pool. So a couple of hours later it was decided that no more swimming would take place today.

The meet was only half way through session one of the day and although it is intended to swim the rest of the programme added onto tomorrow the 1500 won't take place until a later(to be announced tomorrow) date. Obviously this means that any times will be swum outside the dates for NQT and after the closing date for entries. Has anyone ever had expereince of this type of thing before and was there any special arrangements made?

There were a few very cross parents there but I can't really see what else could have been done, you cant legislate for stupidity!

Omg ! what a disaster..... what time was it abandoned?...

Some of our young ones swimming at Districts for the first time this year - hope it doesnt put them off.... Coventry pool is not the swimmers /parents/coaches favourite meet venue anyway ....

We had a club gala for the littleones a while ago and in the first event one little boy competeting for the first time , chucked up in the first heat ... gala had to be cancelled ! ... The poor kid was weeks before they could get him to even get in the pool again... due to the embarrassment of it all ... Poor kid , you have to feel sorry for them ..

Abandoned at 11.15 yesterday morning, then this morning someone else was sick in the 10/11 200 im! The pool attendant had to jump in the pool and clean in out with a net! However all otherwise went smoothly but still have to go back for what should have been yesterdays session 2 now today's session 3. The 1500 moved to next Sat am

How awful for you at Coventry and those poor people with 1500m races abandoned
There was someone sick at the London - but fortunately it was just before they got in. There is always a hold up at the County Champs for someone who is sick.
Why are all these poor kids being sick in the pool or on the blocks - nerves, bad lunchbox choices?

My son was sick straight after a race due to a bad food choice - I'm not experienced , he said he was hungry to me, I said to ask his coach what he could eat (not too long before race I thought) , coach said if youve got to eat have a mars bar, he got one, when he raced (maybe half hour to 45 mins later ) he felt sick half way through 400 free, and chucked straight after!(and got bad time)

One at Londons was nerves - inside information on this and before someone asks not one of my children nor from our club.

An aside to this is that at Bexley Open I arrived to timekeep one of the sessions to be handed a bucket and told that one of the swimmers in the first event usually threw up after most races - as it was she didn't but strange situation to even think this is going to occur on a regular basis.

Standard Procedure for pools is to Backwash.... So suck first, then blow.

The first incident was cleared and with this came a "backwash"... When we arrived for the Sat afternoon session, the pool was well below its standard depth - Very clear from the position of the AW Lane ropes (typical from a backwash).
Frustrating that as they were in Lane 1 they didn't make the guttering or the steps.....
Someone didn't switch from suck to blow by accident, it was standard procedure to fill the pool back up to the normal operating level.

Unfortunately, the sand and sediment from the ballast tanks came through and this made the pool very murky. Arguably they were 'blowing' for quite some time after it was spotted muck water was coming through.... nevertheless, the Sat afternoon sess was cancelled and agreement (ahem!) to run sun night.
The original plan was to still run the 1500 sat night as they thought they could clear the pool in time - didn't happen so the 1500m is next sat morning.

Sunday morning - yes again, someone was sick but without wanting to go into too much detail, it was un-digested food and could be cleared with the net... we did originally think 'groundhog day' - but it was cleared.

Competition completed Sun night approx 19:30 - very long day...

Announcement over the tanoid sunday afternoon - "If swimmers feel sick, please can you leave the pool immediately"... words like "Stable door after horse bolted" springs to mind :)

By all accounts, the Saturday sicker did the same at the counties so we now have a serial sicker in the swim community - hee hee - bless :zip:

He he - Hop .... , Emo just refuses to eat anything before her first event at any meet ......wont eat breakfast before first swim of the day , which I think is madness , but a ritual she always keeps.... , she has however been known to eat a Macdonalds half an hour before the afternoon session with no ill effects ! .... In fact she usually swims better in the afternoons !....

One of her swim mates religiously eats a whole banana or a piece of choc just before a final!............. and he usually wins!.... :aarrgghh:

The boxes they put their trainers/ trackies in by the blocks sometimes come in handy as an emergency pre race barf bucket , so I hear.... yeugh....
